The latest chapter in the Elbaf storyline from One Piece has left fans astounded by the vast amount of background information that Eiichiro Oda has unveiled. Given how eagerly anticipated and extensively teased Elbaf was, it was always expected to be a significant milestone for the Straw Hat Pirates’ journey. However, even the most ardent fans couldn’t have foreseen the immense scale of this arc.
In truth, Elbaf’s visit not only unveiled solutions to enormous enigmas but also introduced even more profound mysteries. Chapter 1138 of One Piece delved deeply into these new puzzles. Of course, one of these mysteries is linked to the Void Century, a significant secret in the narrative and arguably the most crucial time period as well. In chapter 1138 of One Piece, Nico Robin decoded the Harley texts, revealing to fans the specific events that transpired during the Second World, or the era of the Void Century.
The War of the First World In One Piece
Fire swept across the landscape, tempting humans to break a sacred rule by reaching for the off-limits sun. Enslaved beings pleaded, and the Sun Deity made an appearance. The Earth Deity grew furious, joining forces with the serpent of fiery doom to cast the world into despair and shadow. Their encounter would be a thing of legend.
According to the Harley texts, two major disasters have occurred in the world of One Piece, one being 900 years ago, signifying the start of the Void Century, and another dating back roughly 1600 years. During this earlier period, the descriptions in the Harley texts suggest a technologically advanced society with skyscrapers, factories, and other modern amenities. At this time, flames swept across the world, possibly allowing for massive amounts of Mother Flame to be generated. It’s plausible that Earth had an artificial sun at this point, which likely surpasses the power capabilities of anything Vegapunk developed during the Egghead arc.

Over time, humanity became arrogant and driven by their insatiable desires, harnessing solar energy for personal gain. A ruler emerged, and it is thought that slavery was introduced to secure more access to the Celestial Fire, among other resources. The oppressed pleaded to the Solar Deity for salvation, and lo and behold, their hopes were answered – perhaps through the Sun’s own intervention. It is suggested that the Solar Deity originated from the very moon itself, arriving in a vessel similar to the Maxim. This act provoked the Anger of the Earth God and the Infernal Flame Serpent, who joined forces with Nika, ultimately leading to the devastation and destruction of the entire world.
The War Of The Second World
Second World
Life awoke in the emptiness, and the deity of the forest unleashed spectral creatures. The sun merely fueled the flames of conflict. Those under the crescent moon and those under the full moon both dreamt. People murdered the sun and ascended to divinity, while the sea god fumed with wrath. Their paths would never cross again – according to Harley’s narrative.
900 years in the past, in a prosperous kingdom, there emerged a figure known as Joy Boy, who marked the beginning of a new era. After the devastation of an earlier time, life sprang anew, and civilization began to rebuild. This advanced civilization, with its sophisticated technology, might have been able to endure the first war and preserve their abilities. Fans are well aware of the timeline for this particular conflict.
The entity known as the Forest God, who is either connected to the Sun Tree Eve and the Treasure Tree Adam or a figure such as Nika, who governs forests, issued the command to bring forth creatures known as demons. This statement can be understood in two different ways. In one interpretation, these demons could be the Devil Fruits, since the Forest God is capable of producing such fruits. Alternatively, it could mean that demons refer to the military force of the Forest God, which might include beings similar to the Elders.
The Dreams Of The D People
In the worlds of the Half-Moon (D), the Full Moon (One Piece’s winged races), and dreamers alike, there was a shared vision that culminated in the reappearance of Nika, known as Joy Boy. However, this harmony was shattered as 20 Kingdoms rose against the Ancient Kingdom, ultimately leading to the demise of the Sun.
The Death Of The Sun
Let me clarify that I’m referring to the physical Sun, not a deity like the Sun God. The Sun, in this context, symbolizes the source of the Mother Flame or the energy fueling the Ancient Weapon. By harnessing this power, humanity ascended to divine status, and unfortunately, Joy Boy also perished during this conflict.
The Rage Of The Sea God
In a metaphorical sense, the mighty ruler of the seas, either Shirahoshi or Poseidon, was enraged, leading to an overwhelming surge that swallowed everything in sight and lowered the world by about 200 meters. Unfortunately, Joy Boy, who was once alive, would never encounter this sea deity nor any other companions evermore, as he had already perished. The precise identity of this Sea God remains uncertain at present.
The Creation of The Devil Fruits
During the Void Century, the enigmatic Devil Fruits originated in one of two scenarios. The first suggests that these strange fruits were brought about by the Forest God, who is believed to have unleashed demons upon the world. Alternatively, some theories propose that the Devil Fruits emerged from the aspirations and dreams of the half-moon and full-moon beings, a unique characteristic of these entities who are not human but possibly hail from the moon itself. In both cases, the Devil Fruits made their appearance during the Void Century.
On the wall art displayed alongside the Adam Tree, it became evident that Joy Boy and his followers were engaged in a conflict against Imu, the deity of Earth who controlled the Sun’s energy, the essence that powered the Ancient Weapons. Among Joy Boy’s numerous allies were Giants, Ancient Giants, Kuja, Fishmen, Tontatta, Samurai, Minks, and Lunarians, along with others. However, at the conclusion of this war, the world submerged 200 meters, resulting in Joy Boy’s demise. It is also mentioned in the Harley texts that the Sun was defeated, implying that the unlimited power they held was also lost, which may be why the Ancient Weapons have remained dormant ever since.
Now, the Third World is here and an ultimate war of massive proportions is set to follow.
