Fans of Mobile Suit Gundam, Evangelion, and Hideaki Anno might be excited for April, as there’s a strong chance we’ll hear some positive updates about the upcoming series Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (G-Quacks)!

The newly released “GQuuuuuuX” is the first Gundam series to be created by Studio Khara, a studio known for its ownership of the rights to the Evangelion series and also for producing the “Rebuild of Evangelion” quartet.

Based on Japanese social media posts, during a radio show called MAGIC JAM broadcasted on January 29th, it was announced that GQuuuuuuX is set to make their debut in April 2025. Additionally, Tomoyo Kurosawa, the voice actress for Yuzuriha Amate/Machu in the upcoming series, may have hinted at an April debut initially, but later removed her post.

GQuuuuuuX Production Team

This animated series is penned by Hideaki Anno, renowned for his work on Neon Genesis Evangelion, as well as Yoji Enokido, a former chief scriptwriter for Sailor Moon SuperS. The director is Kazuya Tsurumaki, who has co-directed The End of Evangelion and Rebuild of Evangelion; the main crew have worked together previously at the now-closed Studio Gainax.

Although Anno serves as both a writer and the president of Khara, it’s said that Tsurumaki chooses to keep him detached from the production process to maintain creative control, at least based on what Ikuto Yamashita, the mechanical designer, has reported. Tsurumaki hinted that he included some special elements for fans of Evangelion in the series.

In April 2025, the full-sized Gundam statue that was previously located at the Yokohama Gundam Factory will be relocated to the Gundam Pavilion during the Osaka Expo 2025 (from April to October). This move could potentially tie in with promotional efforts for a new Gundam series.

Gundam GQuuuuuuX Prologue Movie

The opening chapter of “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-” has been playing in Japan since January 17th and has been dominating the box office, making over 1.4 billion yen (approximately 9 million dollars) in just two weeks. It’s expected to continue its success in the coming weeks. GKIDS has announced plans to screen the film across North America starting February 28, 2025. This initial segment is a revised compilation of the first four episodes from the series.

There’s speculation that this tale might be an alternative timeline scenario for the initial Gundam 0079 series, a key part of the franchise. The plot unfolds on a space colony – which are often featured in the Universal Century timeline.

In an exhilarating turn of events, I find myself as an ordinary high school girl, but fate has a knack for the unexpected. One fateful day, I cross paths with Nyaan, a war-weary refugee. Our shared adrenaline rush leads us to participate in the clandestine Clan Battles, where I take on the alias Machu and command the formidable GQuuuuuuX in mobile suit duels. However, as luck would have it, our illicit activities have drawn the attention of law enforcement, putting us squarely in their crosshairs.

It appears that the film is set to play worldwide, suggesting that the series might reach global viewers as well. But, at this point, no streaming platform has announced plans to broadcast the series outside of our country.

Although there’s yet to be an official announcement regarding the launch date for “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX”, speculations and possible leaks hint towards a potential release in April 2025. The number of episodes in this series remains undisclosed at this point.
