The upcoming update for Halo Infinite, titled Operation Frontlines, is set to release on February 4th. One of the major additions in this update includes a fresh weapon called the Fuel Rod SPNKr.
In essence, it’s as though the offspring of a Fuel Rod and a Rocket Launcher emerged, symbolizing how humanity assimilated more Covenant tech following the conclusion of the Halo 3 narrative. Frankly, that sounds pretty awesome – conceptually speaking.
During a live broadcast, Halo Studios displayed a weapon that, according to numerous players, bears an uncomfortably similar resemblance to the rocket launcher. In essence, this weapon seems more like a cosmetic modification of the rocket launcher instead of an entirely fresh weapon.
As a devoted enthusiast, I can’t help but notice the striking resemblance between the Fuel Rod SPNKr and a rocket launcher in terms of its overall shape. What’s more, they share a number of intriguing characteristics, such as their captivating animations that add to their allure.
This new type of rocket launcher varies from its traditional counterpart in two key aspects:
Firstly, it experiences a slight drop due to gravity when fired over long distances, which isn’t significant on smaller maps.
Secondly, and more significantly, it comes with a magazine capacity of 6 rounds, compared to the usual 2 rounds in a traditional rocket launcher. This increased capacity is a notable improvement.
Players have expressed disapproval rather than outbursts of anger towards the emerging trend of new weapons, leaning more toward disappointment. The Fuel Rod SPNKr and the game’s earlier released weapon (the MA5K Avenger) are viewed not so much as fresh armaments but more like cosmetic modifications with slightly altered specifications.
Halo is known for its collection of unique weapons and giving players freedom to choose their preferred tools. Originally, the Fuel Rod could ricochet off walls, a trait that the Fuel Rod SPNKr does not possess. While this absence of a distinctive feature has caused some disappointment among fans, it’s not yet at a level where they are highly agitated.
“The state of Halo, man.” said one fan in a Reddit thread discussing the weapon.
Though it’s not particularly attractive, if the reduced team can keep introducing ‘novel’ weapons with unique functionalities, it seems like a decent solution rather than having nothing new at all.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to get fresh content, but let me tell you, it’s not the same as unwrapping an entirely new firearm.
In my perspective as a passionate fan, I believe the MA5K Avenger might have started life as a simple Assault Rifle skin, then evolved into an independent weapon with striking resemblances to its original form. The Fuel Rod SPNKr seems to be Halo Studios’ innovative approach to transforming existing assets into fresh content for players, offering a new gaming experience without straying too far from familiar grounds.
Halo Infinite’s ‘Operation Fontlines’ Update Offers More Than A Gun
In simpler terms, Operation Frontlines provides a greater volume of content than its predecessors, featuring an extended Operation Pass and a less demanding method to access free content. If you happen to miss playing during the operation, you can swap your Spartan Points (a form of free currency) for the items you’ve missed out on.
Just like the past seasons of Halo Infinite, you have the option to buy an extended version of the pass, which grants additional rewards, and removes any time constraints connected to it.
In Halo 2, the Assault gameplay style makes a comeback, where competitors battle for control of a singular explosive device that can be transported to the opposing team’s bomb site. This mode is playable in both four-versus-four and eight-versus-eight skirmishes.
