Warframe has revealed that its upcoming expansion, Techrot Encore, is set to launch in March 2025, offering a sneak peek at some of its new features. This forthcoming Warframe update serves as the next installment in the Warframe: 1999 storyline.
Since 2013, “Warframe” has successfully built a substantial player-base using its free-to-play model, supplemented with captivating paid expansions. This game developed by Digital Extremes is recognized as one of the top live-service games currently available and has maintained an impressive daily user count of more than 50,000 on Steam for over seven years. Throughout its lifespan, developers have kept players engaged through numerous content-rich expansions. The latest expansion, “Warframe: 1999,” was released in December 2024. With the launch of “Warframe: 1999” already behind them, the Canadian studio is now focusing on enhancing the experience provided by the newest DLC over the coming weeks.
Digital Extremes has announced that the sequel to “Warframe: 1999,” titled “Techrot Encore,” is set for release in March. The developers have shared some details about the upcoming content, including new cosmetics and another addition to the existing frame options in Warframe. In the upcoming update, players will encounter a new enemy type called Technocyte Coda, described as corrupted versions of On-lyne. Players must search the Origin System, defeat these enemies, and unlock rewards using the updated token system. The rewards include 13 Infested weapons and some exclusive customization items. Additionally, a new warframe called “Temple,” with “weaponized harmonies,” Gyre’s Deluxe Skin, and four different photoframes have been hinted at before the dedicated Techrot Encore stream in February.
Warframe Looks Set to Revitalize its Player Count Once Again
In the past, significant updates for the game Warframe have led to a massive spike in player engagement on launch days. This trend continued with the release of Warframe 1999, which also featured a collaboration with Balatro, causing its Steam user count to surge as high as 120,000 users at one point. More recently, the number of concurrent players has dropped to around 60,000. Yet, the upcoming Techrot Encore update indicates that Warframe is poised for another increase in player engagement.
2025 promises an exciting new chapter for me as a Warframe fan, with the game poised to explore uncharted territories and reach more platforms. Back in February 2024, the thrilling sci-fi action of Warframe made its long-awaited debut on iOS, opening up the game to a vast mobile community. Now, the developers are eagerly working to bring this free-to-play game to Android as well, with pre-registrations already underway for quite some time.
