Summary
- Destiny 2’s Episode Heresy boosts Arc subclasses and reworks Exotics.
- Lack of new Exotic armor disappoints fans, impacting the game’s momentum.
- Changes to existing Exotics compensate for the absence of new armor in Heresy.
The upcoming release of Episode Heresy might provide a much-needed boost for Destiny 2, given the mixed reactions towards Revenant. However, while Bungie appears to be taking player feedback into account in several aspects of the new expansion, it’s worth noting that the crafting system in Destiny 2 will continue to phase out, making it more challenging to acquire seasonal weapons and their optimal builds. Furthermore, although Episode Heresy introduces changes to the meta that favor Arc subclasses and builds, there seems to be some disappointment regarding the lack of innovative new items compared to the modifications made to existing Exotics.
In the upcoming expansion of “Destiny 2,” Arc subclasses are expected to dominate in Heresy, primarily due to general buffs and the emphasis on Artifact perks that align with Arc keywords and the fresh Bolt Charge ability. New Arc Aspects for Warlock and Titan will emerge, along with a revamp of numerous existing Exotic armor pieces featuring Arc-related effects, enhancing build variety.
However, it’s important to note that this expansion won’t introduce new Exotic armor pieces for all three classes, which might leave some players feeling underwhelmed.
Destiny 2 May Be Shooting Itself in the Foot Without New Exotic Armor in Heresy
In Destiny 2, fresh Exotic armor additions can make a strong impact at the start of a season or episode, as players have a defined objective for their progress. Acquiring new Exotic armor could be a tad laborious at present, given that players must reset their Reputation Rank with Master Rahool in the Tower, which demands a substantial quantity of Exotic Engrams. However, these new Exotic armor pieces frequently rejuvenate the gameplay meta by alleviating the monotony from repeatedly using similar items for certain builds, despite some of them proving less effective.
In terms of a looter-shooter like Destiny 2, it’s disheartening for players when certain additions are missed, and this feeling might intensify for Heresy given its current need for success. The lack of new Exotic armor pieces often meets with criticism from the community, even if Heresy is planning to revamp existing Exotics. However, the introduction of new Exotics can stimulate discussions about build-crafting and inspire numerous content creator videos on the resulting builds. Unfortunately, some seasons in Destiny 2 have indeed failed to include new Exotic armor pieces.
Why It Makes Sense For Heresy to Skip New Exotic Armor in Destiny 2
From another perspective, one might contend that it’s acceptable to not introduce fresh Exotic armor pieces occasionally. This is due to the fact that constantly resetting Master Rahool’s Reputation Track with each season or episode can be exhausting, especially considering the limited number of sources for Exotic Engrams in Destiny 2. Moreover, the significant modifications to Exotics coming with Heresy could compensate for the absence of new ones. For instance, the altered Sealed Ahamkara’s Grasp Hunter Exotic now serves a completely different function compared to its previous version, which might feel like an entirely new Exotic.
In a similar vein, the Arc Warlocks in Destiny 2 have received a significant boost to Geomag Stabilizers, making them incredibly potent across all activities and gameplay levels. This has caused Stormcallers and Chaos Reach to become very popular. Although getting both major overhauls and unique Exotic armor pieces would have been ideal, this update at least provides players with fresh, mechanically distinct items without requiring extensive new design work. Whether Bungie’s decision in this instance is ultimately the right one remains to be seen, but for now, the upcoming set of Exotic armor pieces will arrive with Frontiers.
