Is PlatinumGames’ Superhero Game Canceled? Fans Left in the Dark!

Summary

  • Project GG, developed by PlatinumGames, has mysteriously disappeared from the company’s website.
  • Fans are left questioning if the superhero game is canceled due to a lack of updates and the website removal.

The forthcoming superhero game, titled Project GG, which is developed by PlatinumGames, has vanished from their official website, sparking speculation among fans about whether this captivating project has been put on hold or canceled altogether. Renowned for its visually stunning action games such as Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and Nier: Automata, PlatinumGames boasts a rich history in the gaming industry. Prior to co-founding PlatinumGames in 2006, Hideki Kamiya was already an established figure with his impressive work on Capcom titles like Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, and Okami. With PlatinumGames, Kamiya has been instrumental in the creation of exhilarating games such as Astral Chain, World of Demons, and the Bayonetta series, which he also contributed to.

Despite Hideki Kamiya departing from PlatinumGames to reestablish Clover Studio in the year 2023, he and his team still had one more project in development, provisionally named Project GG. This project was initially unveiled in 2020 with a trailer and concept that appeared to be influenced by Ultraman: a heroic figure morphs into a colossal being to combat monsters endangering a devastated metropolis. PlatinumGames mentioned that Project GG would serve as the third installment in an apparent “hero trilogy” from Kamiya, following Viewtiful Joe and 2013’s The Wonderful 101.

Fans of gaming have been waiting for news about the mysterious “Project GG” since its debut, and a recent development has sparked concern that it may never see the light of day. Notably, Jean Pierre Kellams, a former producer at PlatinumGames, highlighted that the official PlatinumGames website recently deleted mentions of 13 games from their lineup, including “Babylon’s Fall” and “Project GG.” It is worth mentioning that web pages for most of the removed games are still accessible, but the link to “Project GG” now redirects directly to PlatinumGames’ main page.

Project GG Seemingly Removed from PlatinumGames Website

Kellams voiced displeasure over these cuts, alleging that PlatinumGames was “obliterating its past” and stating that he found it offensive, given his involvement in several of the scrapped games. The fate of Project GG has been uncertain since Hideki Kamiya’s departure from PlatinumGames at the end of 2023, with him later expressing regret that he didn’t get to finish the ambitious project.

Lately, Kamiya and the resurrected Clover Studio have disclosed that they are creating a highly anticipated Okami sequel, an announcement made during The Game Awards 2024 in December which appears to have eclipsed the spotlight on Project GG. Concurrently, PlatinumGames is collaborating with Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja on Ninja Gaiden 4, a game revealed during last month’s Xbox Developer Direct and scheduled for release in fall 2025.
