Surprise Update: Watch Dogs Finally Gets Steam Achievements After 11 Years!

Summary

  • Watch Dogs now has achievements on Steam thanks to a new update.
  • The 2014 title is the latest Ubisoft game to have achievements enabled on Steam.
  • Older Ubisoft titles such as Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Far Cry 5, and more have recently received Steam achievements.

Watch Dogs has unexpectedly gotten an update on Steam, introducing long-awaited achievements to this game which is almost a decade old. First released in 2014 across various platforms like PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC, the initial version of Watch Dogs lacked achievements on Steam for over ten years. Now, fortunately, the game has received a much-demanded update to include this popular feature.

For years, Ubisoft, a major player in the gaming industry, has made PC gamers download and install their games through the Ubisoft Connect app. But with the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, they’ve announced that all future releases will also be available on Steam on the same day. Since making this announcement, Ubisoft has been busy adding Steam achievements to several titles like Far Cry 5, Far Cry 6, and even Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. It seems they’re not stopping there, as the latest game to get this treatment is Watch Dogs.

Ubisoft Adds Achievements to Watch Dogs on Steam

Reddit user Guineaa pointed out that the game “Watch Dogs” has recently gained Steam achievements, as per its official Steam page. Now, there are 49 achievements for players to earn, ranging from successfully evading a level 5 police scan to completing various story acts. This is the first game in the “Watch Dogs” series to get Steam achievements; it’s still uncertain whether “Watch Dogs 2” and “Watch Dogs Legion” will follow suit. Interestingly, Ubisoft games like the “Far Cry” and “Assassin’s Creed” franchises have had Steam achievements added to older titles gradually, suggesting that there’s a good chance “Watch Dogs 2” and “Legion” might receive the feature soon as well.

It seems that the upcoming launch of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” is a significant shift for Ubisoft. This game isn’t just making a comeback on Steam for simultaneous releases, but with its repeated delays, it appears Ubisoft is striving to fine-tune the game and learn from past errors. Originally slated for release in November 2024, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” was then postponed to February 2025. A month before its planned launch, Ubisoft announced yet another delay, moving the release date to March 20, 2025.

In contrast to ongoing updates on older games with Steam achievements, Ubisoft has unveiled that Far Cry New Dawn will receive a significant upgrade for contemporary consoles. Fans were taken aback at the end of January when a new patch was launched for the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, enhancing its frame rate to 60 FPS for the 2019 release. Despite speculation about Ubisoft’s financial troubles and frequent layoffs, it seems the studio is making every effort to keep fans satisfied as they eagerly anticipate Ubisoft’s next major title.
