After it was announced that Nintendo Switch has reached sales of more than 150 million units, Nintendo is adjusting its predictions for hardware sales.
Originally, the company projected it would sell 12.5 million units this financial year (ending March 31st), which was a drop from the previous prediction of 13.5 million. But Nintendo recently adjusted their forecast and now anticipate selling only 11 million units by the end of the current fiscal year instead.
Year after year, Switch sales have dropped by more than 30%, and software sales have decreased by 24%. Nintendo attributes this decline to the exceptional success of two popular games from their previous fiscal year – The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Wonder.
To be honest, it’s true that many people believe this, but it’s important to understand that a large number of Nintendo enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating the release of the Switch 2 for a while. Consequently, they are choosing to be patient rather than spend their funds on other products at present.
According to Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, while the company has consistently sold hardware and software for eight years now, unfortunately, they fell short of their planned sales target in their latest earnings report.
The Industry Acknowledges That Fans Are Anxiously Waiting for the Switch 2’s Release
Fans have been eagerly anticipating updates about the Switch 2 for quite a while. Although the official acknowledgement of its hardware is reassuring, numerous queries remain unanswered: when can we expect its release? What will its price tag be? What games will it launch with?
According to Nintendo, they are content with their past performance, despite not meeting their initial targets. Some people think it would be advantageous for Nintendo to release their upcoming console promptly.
According to Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games, a consultancy firm located in Tokyo, it’s become significantly more apparent that Nintendo underestimated the remaining lifespan of the Switch at the beginning of their fiscal year.
It seems questionable that they expected to sell 14 million units during this fiscal year, given their rather barren software lineup. The arrival of Switch 2 can’t come fast enough. I just hope they haven’t delayed it until the fall; many people think otherwise.
This coming spring, we’ll uncover more details about the upcoming Switch 2 by means of a Nintendo Direct broadcast and an opportunity for fans to test it out personally in various cities across the globe.
