Destiny 2’s Titans Are the Ultimate Star Wars Stormtroopers

Summary

  • Destiny 2’s Heresy launch day had a rocky start with server issues, but it introduced Star Wars cosmetics.
  • These include armor sets inspired by iconic characters, and Titans getting Stormtrooper armor makes perfect sense.
  • Titans in Destiny 2 are compared to Stormtroopers because the latter have bad aim, while the former don’t even shoot and just punch enemies.

Today marks the debut of Destiny 2, yet despite Bungie’s need for success with Episode Heresy, the launch has had a rocky start due to server problems that ultimately led to the game being taken offline. Despite these issues and the absence of certain voicelines in Destiny 2 as a result of the SAG-AFTRA strike, characters like Xivu Arath and Sloane are now subtitled to help players follow the story. Nevertheless, there’s still a palpable excitement for the new weapons and features, including a Star Wars crossover that introduces several cosmetic items into the game. Among these additions, one stands out as particularly fitting.

In Destiny 2, the Star Wars collaboration offers a variety of Finishers, Emotes, Ghost Shells, among others. However, it’s the new armor sets that are most coveted. Though they come at a high price in Silver, similar to other crossover armor sets, these Star Wars cosmetic armor pieces feature the Royal Protector set for Warlocks, the Shock Enforcer set for Titans, and the Covert Ranger set for Hunters. These sets are inspired by the Imperial Royal Guards, Stormtroopers, and Death Troopers respectively. Thematically, the Stormtrooper set for Titans is a perfect fit.

Why Destiny 2’s Titans Share Similarities With Star Wars’ Stormtroopers

As a dedicated Star Wars fan, I can’t help but chuckle at the age-old meme that Stormtroopers are notoriously bad shots and always miss their mark. In a strange twist of fate, they seem strikingly similar to Destiny 2’s Vex enemies, whose frontline units in trailers often fail to strike their targets. Yet, it’s fascinating how the collaboration that equips Titans with Stormtrooper armor is such an inspired pick, not because Titans are poor shots, but because they don’t take them in the Star Wars canon. Instead, they opt for a more hands-on approach, pummeling their way to victory – a fitting characteristic for our clumsy Stormtroopers indeed!

As a dedicated Destiny 2 gamer, I can’t help but notice the similarities between my Titan character and those iconic Stormtroopers. Just like them, we have our own inside jokes and common behaviors, such as the instinctive urge to charge at anything without a second thought. This could be a Cursed Thrall, a seemingly harmless creature that might just explode, potentially taking down any nearby allies. Now, this isn’t to say every Titan player behaves this way, but there’s a grain of truth in these stereotypes. The reason isn’t necessarily due to the class being used in a certain way, but rather because game developers Bungie have consistently focused on enhancing our melee abilities over time. In fact, since the game launched, the most powerful Prismatic build and almost the only S-tier one for the subclass revolve around Consecration – a powerful melee ability.

Why Titans Make Sense For Stormtrooper Comparisons

Regarding combat abilities, Titans in Destiny 2 are somewhat restricted, intentionally so by the game designers. For instance, during the Raid Race for The Final Shape, only a few Titan players were able to reach and defeat The Witness due to their relatively weak ranged damage capabilities. However, since then, certain buffs have been made to Arc subclasses in Destiny 2 with Heresy, giving Titans some new tools to utilize. Although Destiny 2 primarily focuses on looting and shooting, the class of Titans has been somewhat restricted to melee combat, which may not be as versatile as other classes.

Instead of their poor accuracy with weapons being the basis for comparing Titans to Stormtroopers, it’s actually their role as melee fighters in certain situations, as shown by their armor set being named “Shock Enforcer” and featuring a melee-focused Finisher. This reinforces that this is the intended function of Titans, although they may occasionally receive Destiny 2 Exotics that encourage different playstyles. Given that Hunters and Warlocks excel in long-range shooting scenarios against bosses, it’s fitting that it’s the Titans who have been given the Stormtrooper treatment, as it aligns perfectly with their design.
