- Mustafa teased fans by implying that there are big surprises in store for viewers of It: Welcome to Derry.
As fans of Stephen King eagerly anticipate the release of “It: Welcome to Derry”, one of the stars from “It: Chapter Two” offers an intriguing tidbit. Isaiah Mustafa, among others, seems open to another film focusing on Pennywise the Clown and hints that a potential sequel could be in development at a not-so-distant horizon.
In the movie “It: Chapter Two,” Mustafa portrayed Mike Hanlon, who remained in Derry as an adult, keeping watch over the town and summoning The Losers Club back if he suspected the return of the evil entity known as Pennywise. Both “It: Chapter Two” and its prequel were based on Stephen King’s beloved novel adaptations. The story unfolds across two distinct time periods. The initial part of the book and the first film focused on The Losers Club uniting for the first time to confront the terrifying clown that could transform into one’s deepest fears. “It: Chapter Two” presents the adult versions, including Mustafa’s character, managing (so far) to vanquish Pennywise.
Is It: Chapter Three On The Way?
In a recent conversation with Screenrant, Mustafa hinted at the possibility of another film in the “It” universe, such as “It: Chapter Three.” Although he hasn’t discussed any potential project with Pennywise and Derry specifically, he didn’t rule it out entirely. He left the door open by saying, “never say never.” However, he isn’t sure if his character Mike Hanlon will reappear, but he has always felt that the story might continue because, in his words, “he never thought there wouldn’t be anything to keep the story going.
Mustafa jokingly hinted he’s worked on the set of “It: Welcome to Derry,” a prequel series expected on Max this year. Unlike The Losers Club, who hadn’t encountered Pennywise yet, the story unfolds years prior, shedding light on the terrors Pennywise inflicted before Mike Hanlon and his crew decided to confront him.
Although Mustafa visited the set of the upcoming series, he’s keeping all details under wraps. As he put it in an interview, “I understand the importance of holding my tongue regarding what’s yet to unfold.” Furthermore, he tantalized fans by hinting at certain aspects he noticed during his visit that would create a stir once they become public knowledge, only to be explicitly instructed not to discuss them.
At this moment, the series titled “Derry” doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but it is anticipated to debut in 2025. The creators of the show have a detailed strategy in place to narrate the story over three seasons, provided they are allowed to complete the narrative. There’s a possibility that another film featuring the shape-shifting monster could surface between these seasons, given everything goes smoothly for fans of the Stephen King adaptation.
