The “Village and Pillage” update for Minecraft was one of its most impressive, introducing a wide array of new or improved features. Among these changes, the enhancement of villager trading from a minor novelty to a sophisticated system stands out as particularly significant, drastically altering gameplay dynamics. However, some gamers argue that this trading system has made certain aspects of the game too simplified, with Armorer, Toolsmith, and Weaponsmith villagers capable of selling diamond equipment to players. Notably, Librarian villagers can also sell a variety of enchantments to players, including the Mending trade which is an extremely accessible way for fans to acquire Minecraft’s most coveted enchantment.

Minecraft’s Proposed Villager Changes Explained

In reaction to criticisms about the present design of Minecraft’s villagers, Mojang has unveiled some trial villager modifications. These alterations can be tried out in Java and Bedrock editions, though they haven’t been officially incorporated into the game just yet. Fundamentally, these adjustments weaken certain elements of the existing trading system, but their intent is to increase difficulty rather than entirely eliminate specific trades. The suggestions included in this experimental pack are diverse, but they hold great promise for enhancing the experience of exploration and villager interactions.

Librarian Enchanted Book Changes And Mending Nerf

In this game scenario, equilibrium is primarily achieved by distinguishing among various biomes, thereby restricting certain trades to specific biomes. The role of the Librarian has undergone significant alterations as a result, with each biome now possessing its unique catalog of enchanted books rather than every Librarian being able to sell nearly any enchanted book. To put it simply, Minecraft‘s coveted Mending enchantment, often the first choice for many players when dealing with a Librarian, is only accessible through swamp villagers (alongside Respiration, Depth Strider, and Curse of Vanishing).

Instead of the method used in the current game, this one is more complex due to a key difference: swamps lack naturally occurring village structures. Consequently, players must either cure zombie villagers found in swamps, wait for two villagers to breed within a swamp, or discover villages that border swamps from other biomes. While this process may take longer, it offers the advantage of reducing time spent setting up and destroying lecterns in search of Mending enchantment, and encourages players to delve deeper into their Minecraft world by establishing new villager towns.

In my gaming world, it’s important to mention that jungle villagers have the exclusive rights over Unbreaking, Feather Falling, Projectile Protection, and Power. Just like swamp villagers, they hold these privileges. As for the librarians in this snapshot, they can’t offer maxed-out books with their special enchantments. For instance, a savanna Librarian won’t sell Sharpness IV or V, only Sharpness III.

Cartographer, Armorer, and Wandering Trader Changes

In this adaptation of Minecraft’s trading mechanism, both Cartographers and Armorers specialize in trades that are influenced by the specific biomes they inhabit. Cartographers exchange maps tailored to various biome villages or regions (like swamps or jungles), based on their own biome location, guiding players through diverse landscapes. On the other hand, Armorers offer armor that is also dependent on the biome, although players can trade specific diamonds to acquire different types of diamond armor. When purchasing new pieces of diamond armor from an Armorer in this version, players are expected to have a few diamonds ready.

The Vagabond Merchant, shunned by village folk, has acquired additional trading options. Mostly, these alterations involve equalizing trades, but now, the merchant can offer a variety of logs, an enchanted pickaxe, and an invisibility potion too. More importantly, the Wandering Merchant has been given more depth as a Minecraft entity through new purchasing options, exchanging items such as baked potatoes and fermented spider eyes for emeralds.
