A fresh Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket card named Cyrus has been stirring up trouble in recent player versus player battles. Over 150 new cards have entered the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket since late January, but it’s this Trainer card that’s garnering a lot of attention due to its power to disrupt opponents’ strategies.

The Pokemon TCG Pocket series, titled Space-Time Smackdown, launched its collection of cards on January 29th or 30th (depending on your time zone). This 155-card set is the third to be released for the game, following Genetic Apex at launch and the mini-set Mythical Island which premiered in mid-December. With a strong emphasis on Generation 4 Pokemon, this set is available in two types of booster packs, featuring Dialga and Palkia as the main characters on the covers.

In Space-Time Smackdown, many players are excited about Team Galactic Leader Cyrus, a rare find in the Palkia booster pack. Similar to Trainer Card Sabrina, Cyrus can swap the active Pokemon of the opposing player with one on their bench, provided that the swapped Pokemon is already damaged. However, unlike Sabrina, Cyrus enables the player who uses him to choose which Pokemon takes the active slot. This strategy could lead to a decisive blow against a seemingly secure card.

Enthusiasts of the game generally agree that Cyrus is among the strongest new cards, but they’re quite split on whether his inclusion is beneficial. In the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, players can safeguard their injured cards from Sabrina-induced switches by placing several Pokemon on the bench, enabling them to select which benched Pokemon should absorb the incoming damage. However, some players argue that Cyrus’ presence limits their ability to swap Pokemon in and out of battle, thereby diminishing the enjoyment derived from this strategic aspect.

On a different note, certain players prefer a more dependable card instead of Sabrina, as it encourages opponents to switch their Pokemon. Many players are growing frustrated with the increasing prevalence of delay tactics, such as using Druddigon in the Pokemon TCG Pocket to remain in the active slot without attacking, relying on high HP and other abilities to absorb damage while their benched Pokemon accumulate energy and evolutions. The introduction of Tool cards like Rocky Helmet and Giant Cape in Space-Time Smackdown makes stalling even easier.
