Over time, Valve and various community creators have constructed a large number of Counter-Strike maps, but for CS2, they’re mainly using what’s referred to as the Active Duty map collection. According to Valve, these Active Duty maps represent the most fair and competitive options among all available maps.
To maintain the freshness of the classic first-person shooter gameplay, the Active Duty roster may be adjusted periodically.

What is the current CS2 Active Duty map pool?
In the competitive mode of CS2, known as Premier, we utilize seven maps from the Active Duty rotation. This rotating set of maps, referred to as the Active Duty map pool, is not only employed in our primary competition but also in all tournaments, ranging from small online and local events up to the prestigious Majors.
Valve sometimes alters the Active Duty pool following each Major tournament, though not in every case. These adjustments allow professional teams to familiarize themselves with the present map selection prior to the commencement of the subsequent Major.
Here is the current Active Duty map pool in Counter-Strike 2:
- Ancient
- Anubis
- Dust II
- Inferno
- Mirage
- Nuke
- Train
2025 rolled around, and I, a dedicated gamer, found myself joining the Active Duty roster with the introduction of the fresh, new map, Train. This was just a few months after it made its CS2 debut. Meanwhile, Mirage has been a constant in our gaming world since DreamHack Winter 2013, having graced every single Counter-Strike Major event. It’s unique, being the only map that’s never been rotated out. Overpass, Cobblestone, Vertigo, Cache, and I have all had our turns in the Active Duty pool as well.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve got to say that while the Active Duty pool in Counter-Strike 2 may seem small compared to the vast collection of maps, it’s packed with classics that many CS2 players will instantly recognize. But don’t get me wrong, there are some exciting new additions too! For instance, the community has come up with fresh creations like Edin and Basalt, which are absolutely fantastic. Moreover, CS2 introduces maps tailored for specific game modes such as Wingman or Arms Race, adding a whole new level of diversity to the gaming experience. Yet, no matter how many new maps pop up, the Active Duty ones will always hold a special place in our hearts!
