Assassin’s Creed Shadows Prequel

Summary

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows gets a prequel manga in Japan at launch, while other regions have to wait longer.
  • The manga adds background to the game’s feudal Japan setting and main characters, focusing on a female Assassin.
  • The cover star of the manga may not be Naoe from the game, sparking fan debate and excitement.

The upcoming game “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” is set to have a prequel story in the form of a manga, which was recently announced. Players will need to wait more than a month before they can play “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” but fans worldwide will be able to read the manga after its release. In one region, it will even be available on launch day.

The sneaky role-playing game by Ubisoft, originally slated for launch in November 2024, has experienced a couple of setbacks, moving its release date to March 20, 2025. Excited fans of the established series are now not only looking forward to playing the upcoming game but also reading a story that provides insight into the feudal Japanese backdrop and potentially the main characters as well.

As per a post on the official Twitter account for Assassin’s Creed, the manga will be released simultaneously with the game exclusively in Japan. Fans outside Japan can still access it later, but the release date is yet to be announced. Contrary to the emphasis on the dual protagonists in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the cover art features a solitary female Assassin. Furthermore, the information shared over social media leaves room for uncertainty as to whether the prequel story will primarily focus on Naoe, the game’s stealthier playable character, as it hints at telling a tale about “a young Assassin apprentice battling against the increasing influence of the Templar Order in Japan.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Prequel Manga Officially Announced.

Although the figure depicted on the manga’s cover shares some similarities with Naoe from “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” it is questionable if they are indeed the same character. The manga’s version of Naoe is portrayed as the fictional daughter of Fujibayashi Nagato, a historical figure who did not have a daughter in reality. Furthermore, she embodies stealth gameplay, unlike her combat-focused samurai counterpart Yasuke, and her home province is said to be the origin of many ninja legends. However, it appears that the manga’s cover character may embark on an entirely new journey, as early reports suggest she starts the story unaware of both the Assassins and the Templars.

The manga’s cover is receiving plenty of positive feedback on Twitter, yet it’s not the only related publication that mirrors the game’s visual style. An unofficial preview of an Assassin’s Creed Shadows art book has surfaced online, offering a glimpse into hundreds of images showcasing character designs, locations, and possible storylines from the game.
