Inside Out 2 Writer Hints at Franchise’s Future

After the incredible success of Inside Out 2, there appears to be a strong desire among both fans and Pixar team members for the animated series to carry on. During an interview at the 2025 Saturn Awards with Screen Rant, co-writer David Holstein shared some optimistic insights about the future of the storyline and potential directions he’d like to pursue. “Riley is only just turning 14,” Holstein said, expressing his hope that the franchise will continue to document her life, specifically focusing on motherhood. He also hinted at the possibility of a new story every couple of years, mentioning there are many unexplored emotions they could delve into and even discover some entirely new ones.

Holstein’s remarks appear to align with Kelsey Mann’s thoughts from last year, as she expressed that the Pixar community is eager for Riley to mature further. Additionally, Mann hinted at a desire to delve into content left out of Inside Out 2 in future sequels. Given these comments, it appears that the direction for future Inside Out installments has become clear. Audiences have appreciated watching Riley progress through different stages of life, and potential sequels focusing on emotions associated with significant life events such as graduation, entering the workforce, and even motherhood hold great promise.

Riley is about to turn 14, but she seems much older. There’s still so much life and experiences for her to discover. I genuinely wish this series continues to depict her journey into motherhood.

Inside Out’s Future Isn’t Limited To Film Sequels

Pixar delved into another facet of the story from Inside Out in their miniseries Dream Productions, highlighting the studio-like structure within Riley’s mind responsible for generating her dreams every night. Although there may not be a follow-up film for Inside Out, it’s possible that more Disney+ series focusing on different parts of the animated world could still occur.
