Sports Interactive has made an announcement that Football Manager 2025 will no longer be released, following numerous postponements due to different factors during its development process.
On their game’s official site, the developers have announced that they plan to divert their attention towards the upcoming launch of the game instead.
Sports Interactive expressed their sincere apologies for the delay in sharing this news, which they understand might be frustrating given the postponed release dates and your eagerness for the first gameplay unveiling. They explained that due to the need for compliance with stakeholders, particularly legal and financial regulations, today was the earliest possible day they could make this announcement.
Initially set to launch in the fall, Football Manager 25 has been pushed back again to March 2025. The postponement is attributed to the shift from Sports Interactive Operating System (SIOS) to the Unity engine. Despite the team’s dedicated work, they haven’t managed to meet their expectations in several aspects of the game.
They mentioned that while several aspects of the game meet our expectations, the overall player experience and interface aren’t up to par. Extensive assessments, including consumer testing, have confirmed the need for a new direction in the game, and we are making progress towards it – but we still have some distance to go to reach the quality you should expect.
They went on to explain that the game could’ve potentially been launched as it is currently, with issues addressed post-release. Yet, they felt this wasn’t appropriate for long-time franchise supporters. Moreover, they were hesitant to delay the release beyond March due to the advanced stage of the current season. Consequently, all efforts will be directed towards Football Manager 26.
Initially, they had high hopes that they could still meet their objectives for the game, despite the setbacks. But as additional difficulties arose, it became impossible for them to fulfill their aims and ultimately led to the decision not to cancel the game earlier.
Instead of moving forward with the previous plan, all our energies are being directed towards making sure our upcoming launch meets our objectives and maintains the high standard everyone anticipates,” they explained. “We’ll keep you informed about our progress as soon as we can.
Players who pre-ordered the game will receive a full refund either through their retailer.
