A New GBA Title Arrives On The Nintendo Switch Online Service Next Week

Delighted Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack users! The classic game, Wario Land 4, will be added to the service’s Game Boy Advance (GBA) collection starting next week.

This Is The Last, But By No Means Least, Of The Wario Land Series

Prior to the character wearing a yellow hat challenging our quick reactions with his cunning mini-games in the sequel series known as WarioWare, the Wario Land games were a collection of clever platformers that were launched on the original Game Boy and continued up to the Game Boy Advance.

Typically known for his selfish tendencies, Wario is enticed towards an enigmatic jungle pyramid, steeped in legend, where he eventually finds himself trapped.

To successfully make an exit from the pyramid, the character needs to navigate, leap over obstacles, and search for hidden loot along the way. This journey begins with a tutorial level within the pyramid, followed by four additional areas that have unique themes. The ultimate goal is to escape while amassing as much treasure as possible.

In Wario Land 4, various elements from throughout the series are blended together, making it unique as it’s the sole installment where Wario carries a Health Bar. This feature intensifies the difficulty and excitement of Wario’s treasure-hunting expeditions through pyramids.

If Wario’s health gauge runs out completely during gameplay, it means the player has to forfeit any accumulated treasures and collectibles and restart the level from scratch.

At the close of every theme-based section, there’s a boss that Wario needs to vanquish before a countdown ends. It’s not hard to see a parallel between the gameplay mechanics here, particularly the minigames, and the later development of Wario’s WarioWare franchise.

Wario Land 4 Is The First GBA Title To Be Released For The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack This Year

As the launch of Wario Land 4 approached, the latest additions to the game were F-Zero GP Legend and F-Zero Climax, which were both unveiled in October 2024.

As a passionate admirer, I can’t help but share an intriguing suggestion: If you’re still hesitant about diving into the game, consider this – Nintendo themselves are advocating that revisiting the 2001 GBA classic could be an exceptional way to spend Valentine’s Day, as hinted at in their recent social media announcement.

Starting next week on February 14, 2025, players with a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass can access Wario Land 4 again through the Game Boy Advance section of their service.
