In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, the Divine Dogs are a pair of twin spirits, resembling wolves, that belong to the Zenin Clan and are summoned through their unique technique, the Ten Shadows. Megumi Fushiguro utilizes these divine creatures in combat, tracking scents, alerting him of impending curses, and even guiding him towards specific targets when required.
As a disciple and prodigy at Jujutsu High, I’ve been blessed with the Zenin family’s unique technique: summoning shadow-formed shikigamis. Among these spectral companions, the Divine Dogs have become my formidable battle allies, enhancing my offensive prowess significantly. However, you might wonder about their true worth in combat… well, let me tell you, they’re not just powerful, but versatile too!

As I observe, grasping the essence of the Divine Dogs requires first understanding the concept of shikigamis. Shikigamis, in essence, are spiritual familiars that bear resemblance to cursed spirits. These entities can be summoned by their users on demand, serving either as a protective shield or an aid in combat. However, it’s crucial to note that the might of a shikigami can sometimes lead to peril if the summoned spirit is excessively powerful. Fortunately, the Divine Dogs are manageable even for Megumi due to their docile nature. The power of a shikigami is also directly influenced by the proficiency of its user.
The Divine Hounds, resembling wolves, serve as supernatural shikigami, boasting heightened senses beneficial for chase-downs of curses. Megumi shares a strong affinity with these Divine Hounds, marking them as the initial entities he summons using his Ten Shadows Technique. Beyond their spying duties, these divine creatures are not only agile informants but also formidable beasts, capable of shredding adversaries with their sharp teeth and claws.
Initially in this series, Megumi demonstrates her ability to call upon two divine canines, one black and one white. These twin shikigami dogs operate in tandem during battle, often overpowering their adversaries effortlessly. Notably, once a shikigami is destroyed, it cannot be summoned anew. In the episode titled “The Fearsome Womb,” Megumi, Yuji, and Nobara are tasked with rescuing prisoners from a detention center that’s under the influence of a cursed womb.
Megumi calls forth his white Sacred Canine for an examination of the area, but tragically discovers it slain by a superior-ranked cursed spirit. In its demise, the power from the white canine is transferred to the black canine. This transformation empowers the black canine significantly, enabling it to advance into a formidable Sacred Canine known as Divine Dog: Totality. This new incarnation of the Sacred Canine is larger and stronger, capable of standing firm against more potent cursed spirits. This enhanced ability is evident during the confrontation with Hanami, as the Divine Dog:Totality form inflicted substantial harm upon her.
I Will Become Stronger. I’ll Do Anything It Takes.
What Are The Drawbacks Of The Divine Dogs?
As Shikigamis, The Divine Dogs Are Useful Companions

Using the Divine Dogs (shikigamis) comes with certain limitations – once one is destroyed, it cannot be re-summoned. However, any surviving shikigami can absorb the power of the fallen one as mentioned earlier. This means Megumi needs to be careful in selecting which shikigami he summons because his safety is a constant concern. The Divine Dogs are not indestructible and can be hurt easily if they face an opponent that’s too strong. If a Divine Dog comes across an extremely potent cursed spirit, its chances of survival are slim.
Just like Megumi’s spirit beasts, the Divine Dogs derive their power from his cursed energy. This implies that a user’s proficiency and might directly impact these creatures. If Megumi is considerably weakened, he might find it challenging to maintain the Divine Dogs active during a fight. Despite being conventional spirit beasts, their strategic application sets them apart as potent tools. The way Megumi employs the Divine Dogs is crucial in battle, and he utilizes them fully.
