The trailer for “Fantastic Four: First Steps” was introduced with several promotional posters to generate excitement for the upcoming sneak peek. However, Marvel Studios faced accusations that they used artificial intelligence to produce these posters. Yet, one enthusiast stepped up to debunk some of these allegations partially.
The trailer for “Fantastic Four: First Steps” was widely praised. However, some fans had issues with the voice of The Thing in the same trailer. Yet, most viewers were excited about what seemed to be the most authentic portrayal of Marvel’s First Family in a live-action movie, following several unsuccessful attempts. Conversely, some noticed inconsistencies in the posters for “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” leading many to speculate they might have been designed using AI.
In a twist of events, Marvel Studios refuted claims that AI was utilized in creating the posters for ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’, but some fans remained unconvinced. Odd details such as characters having four fingers, abnormal head sizes, and recurring faces fueled speculation among fans that subpar Photoshop editing might be the culprit if AI wasn’t involved. One of these peculiarities concerned a character waving a Fantastic Four flag with only four fingers holding onto the flagpole (as shown below). Reddit user Pumpkin_Sushi posted pictures demonstrating how they could hold a spoon in the same way as the character in the ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ poster, seemingly disproving the existence of a fifth finger if it were hidden. “The finger is curled like the others and behind the spoon. Attempt it yourself! By aligning the angle, the finger becomes concealed by the thumb,” wrote Pumpkin_Sushi.
The photos sparked another round of discussions among fans. Some believed this theory provided a logical explanation for the “missing finger,” with many sharing they had tried this experiment themselves. User Hungry_Horace shared their experience of attempting the same pose using a large marker, discovering an angle where the index finger is hidden behind the thumb. Yet, other fans found this explanation plausible but still thought it was an awkward and unnatural way to wave a flag. Reddit user yedi001 jokingly proposed that the artist on the Fantastic Four: First Steps poster might have been influenced by Deadpool creator co-creator Rob Liefeld, whose art style is often criticized for its eccentric character anatomy and proportions.
In the posters for the movie “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” there are some inconsistencies that need clarification. It has been suggested that artists often use pre-existing images, which could explain the recurring faces. However, claims that the art was created by an AI seem unlikely and didn’t seem to diminish enthusiasm for the film. The trailer gave fans the feeling that “Fantastic Four: First Steps” would bring a new aesthetic to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an aspect that even die-hard fans of the franchise feel is long overdue.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.
