As stated by Ted Price, it seems that Insomniac Games were keen on creating another installment, specifically the fourth game, within their Resistance series; however, they appeared to have been declined by Sony’s PlayStation.
Price Stated That Resistance 4 Was His Favorite Game That Was Pitched But Never Greenlit
As I sat down for a chat with Kinda Funny Games, I couldn’t help but share some intriguing insights about the abandoned follow-up project from our studio, Insomniac Games.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the expansion of the Resistance storyline is a testament to the Insomniac team’s deep passion for exploring this intriguing alternate history. It’s a world brimming with possibilities, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us next!
It appears that Price is intrigued by the potential directions the Chimera, the extraterrestrial civilization from the Resistance series who have taken over Earth, might head in the future. Moreover, he seems keen on exploring more details about the history and purposes driving the Chimera’s origins and ambitions.
During the entire interview, Price emphasized the effort invested in the unrealized sequel, sharing that a significant amount of time was dedicated not only to expanding the backstory and lore but also brainstorming potential directions for the series to progress.

To put it simply, for those unfamiliar, the Resistance series initially debuted exclusively on the Sony PlayStation 3, with its inaugural installment named “Resistance: Fall of Man,” which was released in the year 2006.
In this game, you find yourself in a first-person shooter scenario, set in the year 1951. Here, you join a small band of humans resisting an overwhelming alien invasion that has taken over the United Kingdom, following their conquest of mainland Europe.
Following a long line of sequels, side stories, and associated content, the franchise took a break, with its last installment appearing in 2012 under the PlayStation Vita game titled “Resistance: Burning Skies”.

According To Price, It Might Have Simply Been The Wrong Time And Environment For A Resistance 4.
Price clarified, “The idea we proposed was fantastic, but unfortunately, considering the current timing and market conditions, it simply wasn’t successful.
As a fervent enthusiast, I can understand why Sony might have reservations about investing heavily in projects set within post-apocalyptic landscapes, given the massive success of “The Last of Us” (2013) and the development of Days Gone (2019). If Insomniac’s proposed idea was along similar lines, it would seem logical for Sony to be cautious about committing to a third title in this genre.
No matter if Insomniac Games creates a fourth game in the Resistance series down the line, Price looks back on his time with the franchise warmly.
Price stated, “There are numerous instances, both positive and negative, that I’ll recall from our development phase. These experiences have taught us valuable lessons about overcoming challenges and growing stronger in tough circumstances.
Due to the latest events at Insomniac Games and their victories in the market following their departure from Resistance, it appears that Price and his team continue to engage in meaningful work, benefiting significantly from the knowledge gained during their time with the now idle series.
