Shotzzy is highly accomplished in the world of esports, being one of only two professionals to win a world championship in not one, but two different games. He’s also earned multiple titles and MVP awards. In the Call of Duty League, he’s recognized as one of the most consistently exciting and skilled players, holding an important position on OpTic Texas.
Even though it’s now 2025, during the Madrid Major, he’s still not past the interview he did in London back in 2020. In a quiet corner, I had a chat with Shotzzy and Huke about their future travel plans in Europe.
Redemption Story
At the Madrid Major, OpTic Texas suffered a significant defeat, getting eliminated from the knockout stage by the powerful Carolina Royal Ravens. Initially, OpTic Texas was considered a front-runner to win, having won at COD Champs 2024 earlier in the season. Despite their best efforts, the team couldn’t manage to outperform their opponents.
More recently, Optic Texas made headlines as Pred, who took a break from the team in December 2024, returned to the squad, displacing Huke from his short-term position on the roster.
2020 found me, Shotzzy, embarking on a trip to London alongside Dallas Empire, the team I’d eventually lead to winning the Call of Duty League Championship. During that adventure, I had an unforgettable moment in front of the cameras, but it appeared that the glare of the spotlight made me a bit jittery. This nervousness was reflected in my interview responses:
[Interviewer] “Shotzzy, what do you think about your team’s performance today?”
[Me] “Um… I mean… We did good, right? I guess we just need to keep practicing and improving.”
[Interviewer] “How confident are you going into the finals?”
[Me] “Well, I think we have a chance… I hope we can do it. We’ll see what happens.”
[Interviewer] “What’s your secret to success in Call of Duty?”
[Me] “Uh… I just try to stay focused and work hard. And listen to my teammates, of course.”
Looking back on it now, I can laugh about the interview and how nervous I was. But at the time, those jitters made me realize just how much pressure comes with playing at such a high level!
During my conversation with Shotzzy in Madrid, I discovered that the interview was still fresh on his mind. When I inquired about the possibility of them participating in another Call of Duty tournament in London, Shotzzy responded affirmatively.
I’d put it this way: “I can confirm, it was London. You see, I had a terrible job interview there long ago. Now, I’m determined to redeem myself and improve my performance at that same interview.
After the interview, Shotzzy has managed to win two world championships in the Call of Duty realm, making him not only one of the best players but also incredibly entertaining and charismatic. With such a stellar reputation, it’s clear that if he returns to London, he will have no problem reclaiming his previous success – in other words, he’ll be able to ‘recover what he lost’.
