PlayStation Gives Reason For PSN Outage; Offers Amends

Sony has officially explained why the PlayStation Network (PSN) experienced an outage lasting approximately 20 hours over the weekend, which caused the service to go offline.

Over the weekend, the company took to social media to explain the service interruption as being due to a “technical problem” without providing further details or discussing preventative measures. Once more, they expressed their apologies for the inconvenience caused.

I’m thrilled to report that our network services are back up and running, having successfully navigated through an operational hiccup! I sincerely apologize for any trouble this may have caused, and I want to express my gratitude for your understanding and patience during this time.

To compensate for almost an entire day’s worth of service being missed, Sony is providing additional five days to all PlayStation Plus members. These extra days will be automatically added to each subscription plan.

Initially, the PlayStation Network (PSN) experienced an outage on Friday, February 7, around 6 PM Eastern Time. This interruption affected users worldwide, preventing them from logging in, playing online games, and accessing the PlayStation Store. The service began to recover by 3:40 PM ET on Saturday, February 8.

Due to the outage, the company didn’t offer regular updates to the players until several hours later when they confirmed that the service was back up. The subsequent announcement confirmed that the service had been successfully restored.
