Elden Ring Nightrein Details for Procedurally Generated Maps Unveiled

The upcoming release of Elden Ring Nightreign represents a different way to experience Elden Ring.

Although there might be some variations from the typical FromSoftware gameplay style, don’t anticipate the developer to veer significantly away from their established formula.

The layout of the maps in the game is undergoing a transformation. As revealed by Junya Ishizaki, during an interview with PC Gamer (as shared by GamesRadar), these changes will involve significant shifts in terrain, including the emergence of volcanoes, swamps, or forests through procedural generation.

He explains that the goal was to make the map act as a massive labyrinth for players to navigate and discover something new each time they play. Additionally, he mentions that towards the end of their third session, they must select the boss they wish to confront.

Ishizaki explains that roguelike features provide multiple options for players to explore. “When you’ve chosen your path, it might influence how you plan your tactics against the boss, and this could affect your approach to the map. Our goal was to let players make decisions, such as ‘I should get a poison weapon this time to defeat that boss.’

Elden Ring: Neightreign Introduces Roguelike Elements But Makes Sure It Isn’t Chasing Trends

Many software creators often prioritize adopting fashionable tech trends to attract users. However, unlike other studios who have embraced the roguelike genre, FromSoftware ensures their approach is grounded in logic rather than popularity.

Ishizaki clarifies that they aim to create a unique experience within the Elden Ring intellectual property. They believe that a roguelike format would align perfectly with this goal, as it offers an exciting new challenge not typically encountered in Elden Ring or their previous games. To achieve a fresh feeling of achievement, they felt compelled to incorporate novel mechanics and components into the design.

Enthusiasts can look forward to an imminent unveiling of what lies ahead; the initial testing phase for “Elden Ring: Neightrein” commences on Valentine’s Day, February 14th.

Neightrein will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC later this year.
