Scrooge’s Store Scandal: Missing Items & Player Outrage in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The game Disney Dreamlight Valley, which appears to be an adorable and entertaining simulation game built around Disney’s vast library, has encountered its share of debates. The most recent stir concerning Disney Dreamlight Valley revolves around one of its key aspects, Scrooge’s Store. Odd disappearances have been reported, leaving players perplexed and annoyed by these unexpected changes, and frustrated due to the absence of an explanation from Gameloft.

Past disagreements concerning Disney Dreamlight Valley revolve around two main issues: the Star Path system, resembling a battle pass, has been criticized for its quality and repetitive nature; and some players have expressed irritation with certain character dialogue and aspects of the game’s in-app purchases.

Someone is Swiping from Scrooge’s Store

Indeed, one significant issue being raised in this debate is the concern over monetization. Players started noticing an odd occurrence: specific items from Scrooge’s catalog seemed to vanish without any apparent reason. Some of these unexpectedly absent items were themed around the Monsters INC. universe and a Small Quirky Teapot that was initially part of a Dreamlight Park Community Challenge. Additionally, several quest-related items have inexplicably disappeared as well.

It seems that the disappearance of certain items in the game has sparked speculation among players. They suspect that Gameloft might be taking these items out of circulation to later offer them for sale in the Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Premium Shop. Unlike regular items bought with Star Coins, those found in the Premium Shop are purchased using Moonstones, which is the premium currency within the game. Items from the Premium Shop tend to be larger or more intricate than regular shop items, and they often carry a level of exclusivity, such as having been initially introduced in a previous Premium track of a Star Path. Given that exclusivity is often linked with Premium Shop items, and considering the unique nature of the missing items – the Monster Mug Rack, the Monsters, INC. Computer, and Small Quirky Teapot – it’s plausible to assume this could be the reason for their disappearance.

However, Gameloft hasn’t explicitly stated that these items would be moved or removed from Disney Dreamlight Valley. Despite the larger number of missing items in this instance, it’s not a new occurrence for Gameloft to alter prices or take items out of Scrooge’s Store without apparent justification. A notable example is the Cozy Fireplace, which players can earn at Friendship Level 5 with Goofy. The price of this item was dramatically increased from 4,000 Starcoins to 24,000 with the Scar’s Kingdom update—a staggering 600% increase.

Gameloft is Keeping Disney Dreamlight Valley Players in the Dark

Luckily, the Cozy Fireplace can still be bought with Star Coins in the game – a positive aspect for players. However, if the rumors are true about these items returning to Disney Dreamlight Valley‘s Premium Shop, players may find themselves needing to use Moonstones or even real money to acquire them. These were originally obtainable through quests and events in the past.

Beyond this adjustment, it may reinforce concerns among players that Gameloft prioritizes monetization over addressing player feedback. For weeks now, gamers have been voicing issues such as unexpected bubbles appearing in-game and a problem preventing them from collecting stacks of squid on the ground. Regrettably, Gameloft has yet to provide clarity on resolving these problems or when they will release the next update for Disney Dreamlight Valley.

The roadmap for Disney Dreamlight Valley’s main game, released in 2025, hinted at an update coming early this year. Another update is planned for Spring 2025 as well, but there has been no announcement about the Early 2025 update yet. However, we have not heard any news from Disney Dreamlight Valley’s official page since its last update in December 2024. It remains to be seen if the return of Aladdin and Jasmine to the game will bring back the missing items from Scrooge’s catalog, or if they will appear in a different, more costly shop within Disney Dreamlight Valley.
