Overwatch 2 Gets Another Hotfix Update for Classic Mode

In a recent update, Overwatch 2 has made adjustments to Overwatch: Classic (previously known as the original Overwatch), specifically for the character Doomfist. The modifications revert several aspects of his abilities back to their values from 2017. For instance, the ground checks and shockwave hitbox for Seismic Slam, along with the air time for Rising Uppercut have been restored. These adjustments are currently active within Overwatch 2, though they are only applicable in the Moth Meta game mode of Overwatch: Classic.

Currently, “Overwatch 2” is presently hosting a repeat of its classic mode, called Overwatch: Classic, which is a temporary game setting that takes us back to the original FPS’s era. Unlike the initial balance at the launch of Overwatch: Classic in 2016, this event resurrects the controversial “Moth Meta” dominated by Mercy, reminiscent of September 2017, following the addition of characters like Ana, Sombra, and Doomfist to the game.

In an effort to enhance the quality of the event, Overwatch 2 has rolled out a patch to revert one of its heroes back to his state from eight years ago. The character in question is Doomfist, who was primarily a damage dealer during the original Overwatch period. This update includes several bug fixes intended to refine the ground checks and shockwave hitbox of Seismic Slam, as well as adjusting the airtime and loss of control duration for Rising Uppercut. Additionally, the ability to interrupt Seismic Slam and Rising Uppercut with Rocket Punch or Meteor Strike has been eliminated. It’s important to note that these changes only apply to Doomfist in the Classic version of Overwatch, and not in traditional 5v5 game modes.

For Overwatch: Classic, this isn’t the first time Blizzard has released a hotfix. In fact, just yesterday, they rolled out a minor update for Overwatch 2 to rectify some troubles with Mercy. This adjustment helps the Moth Meta’s iconic character maintain her esteemed standing. Players can anticipate further bug fixes during the final week of Overwatch: Classic, addressing other reported issues that surfaced during this event.

It’s nearly certain that this minor tweak showcases the swiftness of Overwatch 2’s Balance Adjustment Technology in action. With this technology, Overwatch 2 has been agile in making multiple bug fixes and adjustments to balance even between significant seasonal updates and mid-season ones. This rapid response allows Blizzard to fine-tune the game more swiftly and effectively, which is vital for short-lived events such as Overwatch: Classic.

On February 18, Overwatch: Classic will conclude, marking the start of Overwatch 2 Season 15. Specifics about this upcoming update are limited, but players can look forward to learning more details about Season 15, as well as information on heroes, maps, and significant updates for the game in 2025, during the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event scheduled for February 12 at 10 AM PST.
