Summary
- Unique, underdeveloped characters in Bleach manga get more screentime in TYBW anime to showcase abilities and personalities.

- Characters like Shinji and Uryu shine in anime, with extended fights, Bankai reveals, and key plot developments, expanding their roles.
In the popular series “Bleach”, many characters possess distinctive traits, yet not all of them had the chance to fully demonstrate their potential in the original manga. Given the rapid pace of the storyline and the frequent focus on Ichigo and his immediate companions, it’s understandable that some other characters didn’t get as much spotlight. However, in the latest TYBW anime adaptation, there have been several characters who have left a more significant impact.
Before the TYBW anime was released, author Tite Kubo expressed his eagerness to add additional scenes and content to the storyline, expanding upon what he had initially established in the manga. As a result, several characters have received increased screen time, giving fans a deeper understanding of their personalities, motivations, and unique skills they contribute to the plot.
8. The Bambis
The Colorful Girl Squad Of The Sternritter Get A Few Extra Scenes To Show Off Their Unique Powers
- First Appearance: TYBW Episode 4
In the concluding part of the manga, The Bambis significantly increase their presence. However, due to their popularity, they have been granted additional scenes in the anime. A notable instance of this is their prolonged single-sided battle against Ichigo following his return from training with the Zero Division.
In this squash game, the four Sternritter reveal fresh, vivid Holy forms and skills that aren’t depicted in the manga, demonstrating why they are highly respected members of the Quincy army due to their formidable abilities. Regrettably, Bambietta doesn’t have many opportunities to shine as she is a zombie for most of the arc. However, the other four appear more frequently than originally depicted.
7. Shunsui Kyoraku
The Captain Of Squad 1 Feels Much More Relevant In The Anime Thanks To His New Scenes
- First Appearance: Episode 24
Although Kyoraku was a crucial figure among the Soul Reapers during the final war in the manga, fans have delighted in his increased recognition in the anime. One of his most impressive new scenes occurs just before the Soul Reapers launch their attack on Wahrwelt. In this scene, he gives an inspiring speech to rally everyone for the mission ahead, demonstrating that he is capable of stepping up as the next leader of the Soul Society.
Although Kyoraku’s Bankai remains consistent with the original comic, the sequence was expanded with additional scenes to make it as impactful as possible. Essentially, Kyoraku seems more integral to the storyline in the anime and has benefited from added depth through these developments.
6. Shinji Hirako
Shinji Is Being Given The Chance To Demonstrate Why He Deserves The Position Of Captain
- First Appearance: Episode 110
As a dedicated fan, I must say that Shinji, being both Captain and Vizard, is undeniably fascinating in the realm of the series lore. However, in the climactic arc of the manga, he seemed to take a backseat, leaving me yearning for more. But fear not, the anime has stepped up its game, emphasizing Shinji’s unfathomable power, particularly by unveiling his Bankai – something never seen in the original storyline. Moreover, it’s been delightful to witness new scenes highlighting Shinji’s commanding abilities as a captain of the Gotei 13, a trait that was somewhat understated in the manga but is now being spotlighted effectively.
In the last episode of Season 3, Shinji will take on a larger part in battling Gerard. Notably, he has activated his Hollow Mask, an event not witnessed since the Fake Karakura Town storyline in the manga. To the excitement of numerous fans, Shinji and his Vizard allies have been appearing more frequently in this anime adaptation than initially anticipated.
5. Renji Abarai
Renji Gets The Opportunity To Showcase The True Power Of His Lethal Bankai
- First Appearance: Episode 16
In the manga, it was peculiar that Renji, who trained alongside Ichigo in Squad 0, only demonstrated his Bankai once against Mask de Masculine. Ever since then, fans have been eager to learn about the techniques and abilities Renji could use with this enhanced form of Zabimaru. Fortunately, the anime provided a more satisfying display of Renji’s Bankai.
In the thrilling clash with Uryu that’s just been introduced to the anime series, I found myself marveling at the sheer might unleashed by Renji as he wielded his Bankai! This incredible technique imbued him with an astonishing resilience, and amplified both the reach and destructive force of his Zanpakuto. Though Renji ultimately succumbed in this skirmish, it was awe-inspiring to witness firsthand the devastating potential of his enhanced Bankai!
4. Yhwach
The Anime Has Helped To Expand Upon Yhwach’s Character And Motives
- First Appearance: TYBW Episode 1
Episode 24 of the TYBW anime opens with Yhwach, self-declared Quincy King, engaging in a previously unseen conversation with Ichibei prior to the initiation of the attack on the Soul Society. This unique scene provides clarity on several queries, such as how Yhwach acquired Pernida, the left arm of the Soul King, a mystery absent from the manga.
New scenes have been added to provide a richer portrayal of Yhwach’s character, revealing his genuine intentions for the world, his connection with the Soul King, and more. His battles, particularly his intense clash with Yamamoto and most encounters against Ichigo, have been expanded as well.
3. Senjumaru Shutara
The Star Of Squad 0 Puts Up Much More Of A Fight Than She Did Originally
- First Appearance: TYBW Episode 8
Initially, Squad 0 was highly anticipated yet failed to live up to expectations when they confronted Yhwach and his Schutsztaffel, leaving many viewers puzzled as to why they were portrayed as formidable warriors. However, the anime has improved their image significantly, particularly Senjumaru, who is given numerous additional scenes.
Apart from engaging in minor battles alongside Uryu and other Schutzstaffel members, Senjumaru also unleashes her powerful Bankai, an action that triggered tremors across all three worlds at the mere activation. In the anime, Senjumaru’s actions were more aggressive and threatening, significantly enhancing her character. Consequently, this heightened performance has greatly elevated the prestige of Squad 0 within their community.
2. Ukitake Jushiro
Ukitake Receives A Greatly Expanded Flashback Before Making The Ultimate Sacrifice
- First Appearance: Episode 24
In the manga and anime, when Yhwach kills and assimilates the Soul King, Ukitake feels compelled to intervene by tapping into the power of Mimihagi. Interestingly, in the anime version, the captain of Squad 13 is also granted an extended flashback, offering insight into his childhood, his bond with Mimihagi, and his initial encounter with his long-term friend Kyoraku.
Adding this extensive background story amplifies the emotional weight of Ukitake’s ultimate sacrifice, clarifying his link to Mimihagi and shedding light on the enigmatic nature of this divine-like entity. Moreover, there have been extra scenes depicting Ukitake drawing upon Mimihagi’s power for the Soul Palace, sparking curiosity among fans about possible future developments involving the captain; hints that may point towards the Hell arc, in which Ukitake is known to participate.
1. Uryu Ishida
Without A Doubt The Character With The Biggest Glow Up From The Manga
- First Appearance: Episode 7
In the grand saga of Bleach, I, Uryu Ishida, wasn’t exactly admired by many during the final arc, often seen as just one of Yhwach’s followers. But boy, did things change when the anime unfolded! Suddenly, I was taking down and eliminating characters at an alarming rate. The fight against Ichigo was a turning point, where I had no choice but to wound my friend deeply by shooting him in the chest with my Quincy powers. And if that wasn’t shocking enough, I even managed to put an end to Senjumaru – a formidable member of Squad 0. The transformation in my character has been quite unexpected, and I can’t wait to see what unfolds next!
Not only does Uryu’s power not cease, but he also transforms into his Volstandig form, a highly potent state that only Yhwach’s most devoted followers can attain. This extended focus on Uryu significantly elevates his role in the climactic battle, leading some spectators to speculate whether Kubo intentionally turned him into an outright traitor this time, aiming to surprise readers who are acquainted with the manga.
