In its recent update, Ninja Gaiden 2: Black has rolled out several new features including a New Game Plus mode and gameplay adjustments. This significant patch for Ninja Gaiden 2: Black marks the first major one since the game was launched on January 23, 2025.
During Xbox Developer Direct 2025, the beloved franchise Ninja Gaiden made a comeback with the announcement of an upcoming mainline game and the surprise launch of a remastered version of a classic title. While Ninja Gaiden 4 will be the first significant installment in the series since 2012, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black has breathed new life onto modern gaming platforms with its remaster. Since its debut, the remaster has garnered praise from both critics and fans, boasting an OpenCritic score of 81. To fuel this positive momentum, Team Ninja recently unveiled some substantial updates planned for the action-packed game.
In the latest updates for PlayStation, PC, and Xbox, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black introduces a New Game Plus mode. This feature lets players start fresh without losing any previously unlocked weapons or Ninpo from their initial gameplay. Additionally, the update includes a photo mode which can be accessed in-game, giving fans an opportunity to snap shots of Ryu Hayabusa amidst battle action. Furthermore, the player now has the ability to control whether they want to see the projectile weapon carried on Ryu’s back by navigating to “Settings” from the main menu.
Alongside the introduction of these fresh features, the February update also includes numerous bug fixes and adjustments aimed at maintaining balance. For instance, the health of enemies in Chapters 8 and 11 has been reduced, easing the difficulty level in those chapters. Conversely, the number of enemies in Chapters 13 and 14 has been boosted, increasing the challenge they present compared to earlier versions. Additionally, the damage dealt by Ayane, a character from Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, has been enhanced. Furthermore, the developers have addressed several bugs that were causing crashes, preventing progression, or disrupting control functionality.
2025 looks set to be an exciting year for fans of the Ninja Gaiden action-adventure series, with not one, not two, but three releases on the horizon! First up is Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, which is already available. Next is the anticipated sequel, Ninja Gaiden 4, and lastly, a spin-off titled Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, also scheduled for release in 2025. Interestingly, the side-scrolling title, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, is being developed by The Game Kitchen, a new addition to the Ninja Gaiden development family.
