Hunt: Showdown 1896 Developer is Laying Off 15% of Its Work Force

1896-set game developer Hunt: Showdown, by Crytek, has just announced a decision to let go approximately 15% of their current workforce, which amounts to 60 individuals.

In a recent update, Crytek announced that it has become the latest studio to reduce its workforce as a result of challenging market conditions. Approximately 60 staff members from both development teams and shared services will be affected by this decision. Additionally, with the delay of the next Crysis game until Q3 2024, the company is shifting focus towards Hunt: Showdown 1896 to better utilize its workforce.

Crytek announced that layoffs might be unavoidable if the company needed to continue its progress. They had already made an effort to reduce costs and minimize operational expenses, but these measures did not yield positive results. In a bid to support the affected staff, the developer of Hunt: Showdown is planning to offer severance packages and career guidance services.

Crytek asserts that Hunt Showdown: 1896 delivers a robust gaming experience. Consequently, they are wholeheartedly dedicated to managing its operation and plan to further develop and enhance the game by adding fresh content. Furthermore, their dedication to their engine, Cryengine, remains unwavering.

2025 has seen Crytek join a growing list of studios experiencing workforce reductions, with Rocksteady, Microsoft, Unity, Ubisoft, and others already making layoffs this year. It appears this pattern of job cuts may continue for some time.
