Walking Dead Fans Think They Found the Best Transportation Method the Show Ignored

Summary

  • Walkers are slow, making it easy to run from, but can pose a threat in large hordes.
  • Vehicles require gas and upkeep, prompting fans to question why bicycles weren’t used.
  • Fans suggest bicycles as a practical, silent, and efficient mode of transport for survivors.

In my opinion, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” wouldn’t hold the same legendary status without its gruesome, flesh-craving undead that seemed to appear just when things were going smoothly. Luckily for us viewers, these walkers aren’t the swift and agile creatures we saw in “The Last of Us.” Instead, they lumber along at a steady pace, making them more of a persistent threat than an immediate one. Most times, simply outrunning them is enough to keep safe, unless there’s a massive, intimidating horde hot on your heels. However, the survivors from this iconic show quickly learned how to navigate around these undead obstacles.

An alternate method Rick and his companions utilized to travel from point A to B without encountering walkers was by utilizing the numerous vehicles available in their post-apocalyptic surroundings. While these were beneficial for lengthy supply missions and transporting larger groups (generally) safely between camps, they had a significant drawback: gas, which was in short supply. Additionally, maintaining vehicles required considerable effort, something that the show’s characters often lacked time for. Nevertheless, viewers of The Walking Dead have noted an apparent and more straightforward mode of transportation that seemed to be overlooked in later seasons of the series.

Walking Dead Fans Confused About Why Show’s Characters Didn’t Use Bicycles More

In Reddit discussions, a fan of The Walking Dead pointed out an intriguing observation about the scarcity of bicycles in the series. Except for Rick’s brief cycling escape from a walker in his hospital gown during the pilot episode of TWD, and when Eugene’s group uses them after encountering Princess, bicycles are rarely utilized at all. This mode of transport, which is fuel-free, easy to maintain if damaged, quiet, and versatile enough to navigate obstacles like blockages more easily than RVs or cars, seems like a convenient choice that the show overlooked for some reason.

For individuals recalling the unfortunate hitchhiker from season 3 of “The Walking Dead,” who was attacked by zombies when Rick refused to stop the car, it’s possible that he would have survived if he had been using a bike instead. Perhaps in their next spin-off series, the creators of “The Walking Dead” will incorporate more practical transportation methods like bicycles, making survival less dependent on the kindness of others and potentially avoiding being devoured by zombies.

Currently, viewers have the opportunity to watch “The Walking Dead: Dead City” Season 2 in the springtime, while “Daryl Dixon” Season 3 is expected to air at some point this year.
