Since its debut in December 2024, the television series “Dexter: Original Sin” has been extremely popular. The prequel delves into Dexter Morgan’s backstory, as he starts his forensic internship at Miami Metro Homicide. Additionally, it delves into the 1970s timeline, showing us Dexter and his brother, Brian Moser, both before and after their mother’s gruesome murder. Furthermore, glimpses of the future Ice Truck Killer are seen in the 90s timeline, which might suggest a potential spin-off focusing on him in the future.
In simple terms, the world of Dexter is growing as the sequel series, titled “Resurrection,” is scheduled to premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime this summer. Additionally, there are plans underway for a prequel series focusing on The Trinity Killer, hinting that further spin-offs might not be out of the question. A potential candidate for a spin-off could be The Ice Truck Killer, and his cameo in “Original Sin” seems to set up the groundwork for a standalone show featuring him.

Original Sin delves into the background of Dexter as well as Harry Morgan and other characters who share a legacy. In the 90s timeline, Brian Moser emerged unexpectedly, becoming a prime suspect in the N.H.I serial killer case that Harry and Maria LaGuerta were investigating. However, flashbacks set in the 1970s reveal significant appearances by Dexter’s brother. These scenes precede Laura Moser’s murder, during which Brian was already exhibiting signs of psychopathy. The trauma he experienced on that day served as a trigger for his criminal activities. Unlike Dexter, who learned to control his murderous instincts with Harry’s code, Brian was deemed beyond redemption.

As the final episode of Original Sin‘s first season approaches, the stage is poised for a major event involving Brian Moser following his violent act in the previous episode. Yet, it’s not until 15 years later that Brian transforms into the Ice Truck Killer, and since significant encounters between the killer brothers are unlikely in Original Sin, it seems like this is merely laying the groundwork for another spin-off. Roby Attal skillfully portrays Brian Moser in the 90s timeline of Original Sin, suggesting he could headline his own series. Given the success of the Dexter franchise, a standalone show focusing on one of the most captivating antagonists appears imminent.
A Spin-Off Focused On Brian Moser Before He Became The Ice Truck Killer Would Work Very Well
There are numerous opportunities for an Ice Truck Killer sequel, as it could delve into Brian Moser’s later childhood following his separation from Dexter, after the incident involving baby Debra and the pillow. Many unanswered questions remain about Brian’s life before he transformed into the Ice Truck Killer. Given that one more episode of Original Sin might not suffice to cover all these mysteries, a spin-off series seems like the ideal approach to thoroughly examine this complex character.
In my humble opinion as a cinephile, the spin-off focusing on The Trinity Killer is shaping up quite intriguingly. Instead of me, it’s young Arthur Mitchell who takes center stage, grappling with his own harrowing past traumas and setting foot on his chilling path of serial murder. Although Trinity and Dexter had no prior connections in the original series beyond their season four standoff, delving into Arthur’s backstory promises to enrich the expansive universe of Dexter.
However, what truly catches my attention is the possibility of Brian Moser’s origin story intertwining with Original Sin, potentially creating a captivating and distinct serial killer origin tale. If Brian somehow factors into Harry Morgan’s demise in the finale, as some fans speculate, it could pave the way for his return in a potential second season of the Dexter prequel. But remember, this is all contingent on what unfolds in the finale of Original Sin.
