PlayStation 5 Has Sold Over 75 Million Units

During today’s earnings call, Sony revealed that the PS5 has sold over 75 units in its lifetime.

Today’s Sony earnings call spotlighted the gaming and network services division as the star of the show. In the last quarter alone, PS5 surpassed the 75 million sales mark by shipping 9.5 million units. Additionally, active users on PlayStation Network also saw an increase, rising from 118 million in Q3 FY23 to 129 million in Q3 FY24.

Not only that, but both PS5 and PS4 combined have sold over 95.9 million units of software, marking a 6.2 million increase compared to the previous year’s total of 89.7 million. Over this period, approximately 11.6 million units of first-party games were purchased, representing a slight decrease from the 12.3 million sold last year. Additionally, around 74% of these software sales were digital downloads, contrasting with last year’s figure of 77%.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to be part of the growing community that’s helping PlayStation 5 narrow the gap between it and its predecessor, the PS4. Right now, only 1.5 million units separate them in sales during the same timeframe – and with exciting exclusives like Ghost of Yotei on the horizon from first-party studios, along with highly anticipated titles like GTA 6 from third-party developers, I have a feeling that gap will only continue to shrink!
