In 2023, the indie game sensation called “Dave the Diver” made its debut on PC and swiftly became one of the most sought-after indie games that year. Since then, this highly praised game has been adapted for PlayStation consoles and the Switch, leading to sales exceeding five million units by November 2024. During this period, the game’s content was frequently updated with items inspired by popular franchises, including blockbuster movie IP “Godzilla” and the successful indie game “Dredge”. To maintain its popularity, “Dave the Diver” is now being prepared to team up with “Like a Dragon” as part of the upcoming “Ichiban’s Holiday” DLC, scheduled for release in 2025.

In the PlayStation State of Play broadcast, it was unveiled during the livestream that the downloadable content for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, titled Ichiban’s Holiday, will feature Ichiban Kasuga venturing into the Blue Hole. This expansion chronicles the joint escapades of Ichiban and Dave the Diver as they combat a group of dolphin poachers and the Sea Blue gang. The latest trailer for Ichiban’s Holiday showcases some action-packed beat-em-up gameplay, with Ichiban from Like a Dragon teaming up with Dave the Diver’s Cobra. Additionally, this new content offers mini-games that blend elements from both IPs, and players can even enlist characters from Sega’s popular series to assist at Dave’s seafood eatery.

Dave the Diver Director Talks About Ichiban’s Holiday DLC

In a blog post on PlayStation, Director Jaeho Hwang from Dave the Diver acknowledged that the Like a Dragon series has been one of his major influences in gaming. He attributed the upcoming DLC’s creation to a significant encounter with Masayoshi Yokoyama, the head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. Moreover, he mentioned that this crossover DLC combines the top features from both games for the enjoyment of fans from both sides.

Looking forward to it, “Ichiban’s Holiday” isn’t the sole “Dave the Diver” expansion set for release this year. At The Game Awards 2024, Mintrocket unveiled a sneak peek of the “In the Jungle” expansion for the adventure game, which is expected to drop towards the end of 2025. However, whispers are swirling about a possible crossover with another popular title, “Fortnite,” featuring characters from “Like a Dragon” in the not-too-distant future.
