In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the Necessary Evil mission compels Henry to confront tough decisions. Otto von Bergow enlists Henry and Hans for an interrogation of a captive, and based on player choices, it may spark hostility between two influential families.
This manual explores all possible outcomes of the main storyline for ‘KCD2’, based on Henry’s decisions throughout the game. We will discuss the option that seems to cause the fewest problems in the future.
Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough
In the opening scene, Otto von Bergow requests Henry and Hans to question and potentially use harsh methods on a captive bandit, who happens to be from the gang responsible for attacking von Bergow earlier in the storyline. This same group had previously ambushed Henry and Hans during their Easy Riders adventure at the start of the game.
Following your conversation with von Bergow, find Hans who’s seated on a bench near the stairs. It seems that he and Henry reluctantly concur that interrogating the man is necessary if they wish to uncover additional information.
To spare the man from suffering, players should depend on their charm, deceit, and boldness abilities. They can enhance these traits by donning superior armor and mastering the Dark Arts Apprentice skill to amplify Domination, Coercion, and Boldness. Once prepared, follow Hans to the dungeon and make your way into the chamber of torment.
How to Interrogate the Prisoner

Despite being confined within the torture chamber, the bandit refuses to converse with Henry or Hans unless prodded. It’s possible to bypass the need for torture, but that necessitates passing multiple skill tests and selecting the right responses.
- First, choose “I’m Henry.”
- When given the option to slap the prisoner, say, “Let’s do this the easy way.”
- During the next choice, say, “I’m not a traitor.”
From here onwards, the interrogation begins. The players have the chance to inquire about the secret location, the identity of their chief, and whether Istvan Toth is part of their group. However, each inquiry needs a successful skill test to be valid.
Henry must resort to torture if he fails any of the skill checks.

During the Back In The Saddle quest, if players suspect something was off at Nebakov, they can bypass Henry’s question about the prisoner’s band’s location by choosing “We’ve figured it out ourselves” and related options. Otherwise, they need to successfully pass an Intimidation or Coercion skill test. After this, consider these queries:
1. What clue or evidence led you to suspect something at Nebakov?
2. How did you manage to find out about the prisoner’s band without Henry’s help?
3. Do you have any idea where the prisoner’s band is hiding now, despite not asking Henry for information?
4. Can you share more details about your investigation and discovery of the prisoner’s band at Nebakov during the Back In The Saddle quest?
- Who is your leader? (Hard Intimidation or Coercion Check)
- Is Istvan with you? (Medium Speech Check)
If players don’t pass the checks, it doesn’t automatically imply they must employ the use of torture devices, but they will be required to give the prisoner a few hard hits, either by punching or slapping him. The prisoner will disclose that the bandits are concealing Nebakov and that Istvan Toth is collaborating with them.
An essential detail players might learn from him involves who in the vicinity is allied with him. It transpires that Olda Semine belongs to the bandit gang. Players may persuade him to disclose this information through a successful Dialogue check, or resort to harsh interrogation tactics if necessary. This bit of intelligence concludes what players require to know, and they can then converse with von Bergow.
If players inflict torture on the prisoner to obtain information, they could face severe damage to their standing with Hans.
What Should You Tell Von Bergow

As a devoted follower of the events unfolding, I find myself preparing to meet with von Bergow following our recent interrogation. Hans, my comrade, seems uncertain about involving Olda, yet he places his trust in me to make the final decision on this matter.
Don’t Tell von Bergow About Olda
Otto von Bergow can be informed by players about all the knowledge they’ve gathered, but they should omit any reference to Semine. However, if Henry has hinted that Olda departed his wedding prematurely, navigating the conversation might become trickier. A skill check may be required in such a case. Upon a successful completion of Necessary Evil, the next mission commences.
Tell von Bergow About Olda
Should players inform von Bergow of Olda, he’ll arrange for them to accompany Hashek and his troops to Semine. This action triggers a clash with both Old and Young Semine, resulting in a regrettable massacre.

In this game, I’ve found myself at a crossroads: I can stand by Semine and aid him and his son in their escape, or I can align with Hashek and bring destruction to an entire village. Regardless of my choice, Semine’s village will be reduced to ashes. If I choose to help Semine, I must deceive Otto von Bergow upon my return to Trosky, for if I tell the truth, I face the noose. But if I choose Hashek, I can shift the blame onto him, and the quest could end there.
