- Praise the Sun!
In a refreshing change for Elden Ring: Nightreign, the infamous repeated location found in the Souls series, which often required trudging through murky waters, has been removed, offering fans relief and anticipation of new, uncharted territories.
Hidetaka Miyazaki has earned a reputation for creating some of the toughest video games ever made. His work demonstrates a distinct fondness for challenging players, and this passion is particularly evident in his frequent incorporation of toxic marshes within game designs.
In an interview, Miyazaki expressed his affection for the toxic marshes featured in the Souls series. These areas are characterized by water that not only hinders movement but also causes poison damage to the main character. Despite players generally disliking these locations, Miyazaki remains undeterred in his fascination with them.
It’s good news that Elden Ring Nightreign will not be subjected to the oppressive rule of the swamp. As reported in a recent Famitsu interview, the upcoming multiplayer game will not include poisonous marshes.
Elden Ring Nightreign Won’t Feature Poison Swamps

As per Kitao Taidai from FromSoftware, there’s a straightforward reason why the procedurally generated landscapes in Elden Ring’s Nightreign don’t encompass the most despised locales from the Souls series.
Instead of Hidetaka Miyazaki, it’s Junya Ishizaki who has taken over as the director for ‘ELDEN RING’. Since he was the battle director previously, it seems that perhaps no other individual wished to contribute in this capacity.
When Miyazaki isn’t steering the creative direction, other producers at FromSoftware can introduce locations in their games that players find enjoyable instead of terrifying like Blighttown, which might not have been a part of gaming for an entire generation if Miyazaki weren’t involved.
One charming aspect of Miyazaki is his fascination with toxic marshes. It’s amusing that the genius behind challenging bosses like Malenia and Ludwig delights in testing players with the torturous, yet leisurely paced ordeal of murky waters. Fortunately for longtime Souls series enthusiasts, Elden Ring Nightreign offers a respite from this aquatic torment.
