The narrative centers around a notorious serial killer, known as the titular murderer, who has wreaked havoc across America, specifically targeting couples on Valentine’s Day over the past two years. His current target is Seattle, where our story unfolds. In this context, we follow Ally, a marketing professional working at her agency.
Following a failed project, Ally’s supervisor brings in an independent contractor named Jay, and their chance encounter could be likened to a romantic comedy trope. However, their blossoming feelings face obstacles from an unidentified antagonist known as Heart Eyes (HEK) in the film. Despite not being in a relationship, HEK seems to have malicious intentions towards them. The identity of the killer remains unknown, but let’s delve into the chilling aspects first. Keep in mind that the following contains spoilers: The murderer is ruthless, with grisly killings marking the narrative.
6. The Bride To Be
Juiced By Her Own Petard
In a typical horror film, a gripping kill scene helps set the tone, and Heart Eyes delivers on that promise. The initial victim during a seemingly genuine proposal scenario was none other than the cameraman tasked with capturing this spontaneous moment. His demise came swiftly, as a machete pierced the eye of his camera lens – an image that’s hard to stomach.
Subsequently, the soon-to-be husband receives an arrow aimed at his head, causing a nervous twitch in his eye. For a brief moment, the bride-to-be manages to elude the assassin, tragically killing a security guard during her escape. The manner of her death in this film is particularly distressing, as she is brutally compressed and transformed into wine, with no one seen sampling it.
5. The Taxi Driver
Tell Her You Love Her

Following an uneasy business meeting, Ally and Jay hurriedly departed from the restaurant, only to encounter Ally’s former partner. The situation became more peculiar when they hailed a taxi adorned with Valentine’s Day decorations. The taxi driver, who seemed to be a hopeless romantic, yearned for Ally and Jay to be in love; however, they informed him that they were not in a relationship.
The plan had Ally being driven home at the end of the day, but she misplaced her key, so Jay accompanied her to assist. Inside, they encountered the murderer and narrowly dodged his advances. Unfortunately, they couldn’t flee in the taxi as it turned out; he was shot with an arrow before they could drive away. It was simply a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time for him.
4. Detective Hobbs
God Bless America

At the police station, officers believe Jay is the culprit. During his interrogation, the actual perpetrator, HEK, makes an entrance after disabling the power. First, HEK stabs the desk officer with a flag pole, and when Detective Hobs tries to intervene, HEK slashes him across the lower body.
It’s fortunate that what appears on screen doesn’t suggest his body parts coming loose, more like hearts fluttering. However, the film mentioned isn’t the one where such scenes are commonplace. Although there are horror films, such as the initial VHS, that display dismemberment, let’s stay focused. Following those two killings at the police station, Ally successfully rescues Jay and manages to make a safe exit with minimal harm.
3. The Van Couple
Should Have Kept It Down

Ally and Jay dash towards a nearby movie theater or amusement park with an adjacent drive-in, where they choose to spend time inside a parked van. This particular van belongs to a couple who are deeply engrossed in their relationship, paying no mind at all that Ally and Jay are present.
In an attempt to soothe the agitated pair, the fearful duo found themselves unable to quell their ardor, instead propelling them towards the vehicle. The HEK, in a violent turn, attacked the man with a tire iron and followed by his girlfriend. Both succumbed to their injuries, entwined tragically – though tinged with an unwanted romanticism due to their positions – their bodies bearing gaping wounds from multiple stabbing attacks.
2. Eli
Too Disgusting To Describe

In an unexpected turn of events reminiscent of “Scream” series, it turns out there are not just one but three HEKs. Ally and Jay successfully slash one of them following the van accident at the drive-in using a swift strike with a machete. Due to her strong dislike for blood, Ally vomits on the dead body, further degrading it – an extra layer of revenge that this serial killer certainly deserved.
Afterward, they reveal his identity, yet it’s a face that neither of them nor the spectators can identify. His name turned out to be Eli, a devoted admirer, who aimed to aid the genuine culprits in any manner possible.
1. Detective Jean
The Throuple Is Ended

In an unexpected turn, it was revealed that David, the IT technician at the police station, and Detective Jean were the true romantic murderers. Their peculiar fascination lies in killing couples deeply in love, an act that seemingly intensifies their own desires. Lured by a ruse of rescuing Jay, Ally was led to a chapel dedicated to St. Valentine. However, this deception ultimately proved detrimental for the killers.
Jay successfully shoots an arrow into David’s eye, and later, David is drenched in melted wax. Detective Jean suffers a gruesome death by being decapitated by a statue of St. Valentine. Ally might have found it fitting if she had commented on the justice served. For now, it appears the nightmare has ended, but if the movie does well, there’s a chance the HEK’s mission could continue.
