Level Zero: Extraction Updates Canned Two Weeks After Game’s Full Release

Unfortunately, Level Zero Extraction, developed by Doghowl, has run into one of the common problems in the gaming industry. The developer has shared on social media that there will be no more updates for this newly released extraction shooter which came out only two weeks ago.

The game titled Level Zero Extraction was showing promise as an exciting alternative to Escape from Tarkov, powered by alien elements, however, the developer has emphasized that their ‘modestly-sized team’ is no longer able to financially support the game’s development.

Down the Drain

Back in August 2024, Level Zero Extraction debuted during early access, captivating gamers globally due to its fresh approach within the extraction shooter category. In this title, players have the option to command ‘Mercenaries’ or formidable extraterrestrial beings, jumping into a mission to pillage as much as possible before making a successful escape.

Similar to some previous games with similar mechanics, Level Zero Extraction struggled to maintain its popularity, ultimately failing to achieve long-term success.

Currently, only 10 individuals are engaged in playing the game on Steam, while its highest concurrent player count ever is a mere 2,601. This is a considerably small number when compared to rival games such as Hunt: Showdown and Dark and Darker, which were attracting between 10,000 – 12,000 players at the time of their release.

On social media, the Doghowl team wrote:

As a dedicated follower of LZ:E, I must share some disappointing news. The game’s performance hasn’t met our high expectations, and unfortunately, this puts a strain on our small team financially. It pains me to say that we’re facing the tough choice of gradually phasing out support for the game. This decision isn’t easy, but it’s necessary for the long-term sustainability of LZ:E.

The servers will remain active and wipes will persist, however, no more changes or updates will be made to the game. Instead, Doghowl is looking ahead to what’s next as the team discusses their intention to create a new multiplayer game that centers around a collaborative experience.
