Apple TV+’s latest series, titled “The Gorge“, has enthralled viewers with its distinctive fusion of action, sci-fi, and romance. This captivating production revolves around thought-provoking concepts about a world on the edge, where events unfolding outside the central gorge could potentially endanger everything. The Apple TV+ program offers an intriguing mix of genres, appealing to a wide audience with its action sequences for action enthusiasts, abundant conspiracy theories and thrilling suspense for mystery fans, and chilling monsters for those who appreciate a good horror flick.
The Gorge” is broken down into three main scenes. Initially, we meet the protagonists, Levi (portrayed by Miles Teller) and Drasa (Anya Taylor-Joy), who are both skilled snipers from distinct parts of the world, stationed on opposite sides of the massive fissure in the earth’s crust that gives the story its name.
As the play progresses, in the second act, they initially stick to their duties, but their shared curiosity about each other, who is on the opposite side of the gorge, leads them to develop a romantic bond.
In the third and final act, Drasa and Levi uncover the true nature of The Gorge and devise a plan to address it together.
What Happens In The Gorge?
Following their employment by an organization tasked with safeguarding the gorge, Drasa and Levi discover they are the sole defenders against a zone known as Hollow Men, which poses a threat to the rest of the world. Levi learns from his predecessor that he’ll be stationed there for an entire year, and is also informed about all the weaponry set up to ward off the terrifying sounds that echo through the night when everything else is still.
Nevertheless, following Levi’s former colleague linking up with emissaries from the organization that had employed them all, he was put to death, indicating that this group was unwilling to risk the tale of “The Gorge” being revealed to the wider world.
Eventually, Levi finds himself alone, having been instructed strictly not to interact with the individual stationed at the East tower. Initially, he adheres to this instruction, but it eventually falters when Drasa, the only person for miles around, decides she wishes to chat with him on the occasion of her birthday.
As a movie enthusiast, I initially stick to the rules set before me, but everything changes on the day Drasa celebrates her birthday. Intrigued by the prospect of talking to the sole individual residing for miles around, I find myself veering away from my previous adherence.
After regularly communicating through their powerful binoculars and battling the occasional wall-climbing monsters in the gorge, they eventually decide that their friendship isn’t enough and want something more. Levi glides across to meet Drasa at the East tower for a romantic rendezvous, and their connection blossoms just as it might be expected.
After an ideal date, Levi encounters trouble while zip-lining back to his side of the divide. This is because the Hollow Men are attempting another infiltration, causing them to trigger automated mines which sever the zip-line. Unfortunately, this sends Teller’s character into the area they had previously warned never to return from.

Taylor-Joy’s character acts on impulse and jumps into the ravine to rescue Levi. The two of them conclude that they must battle their way out, believing there must be an alternative exit that doesn’t necessitate climbing since large numbers of cavalry were previously sent in. As they struggle against monstrous creatures and Hollow Men, the guards discover the truth about what the ravine represents and why they are trapped within it.
A firm named Dark Lake has been conducting genetic analysis on a substance they developed, which alters anything it comes into contact with. As they ponder the possibility of contamination, Levi and Drasa additionally determine it’s crucial to devise a means to halt Dark Lake from carrying on with their experiments.
How Does The Gorge End?
As Dark Lake discerns, Drasa and Levi ventured into the gorge, and the person who engaged their services (portrayed by Sigourney Weaver) mobilizes a strike team to eliminate the two guards and reclaim authority over the situation. However, these two seasoned military operatives-for-hire, aware that an intervention was imminent from the company, had set up explosives as a precautionary measure around their fortified security system.
In my humble opinion as a movie reviewer, the narrative takes an unexpected twist when Levi finds himself targeted by the company. To counter this threat, he and Drasa, both skilled sharpshooters, remotely detonate explosives from a safe distance. This action not only eliminates the immediate danger but also triggers a nuclear device concealed within the gorge – a contingency plan for total annihilation if needed.
The catastrophic blast eradicates the Hollow Men and their toxic substance, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area. Regrettably, the explosion claims the lives of Weaver’s Bartholomew and his crew, inadvertently eliminating the only individuals aware that either Teller or Taylor-Joy’s characters were present. The tension escalates to a whole new level, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats.
Towards the end of the film, the mercenaries locate one another at a restaurant, as per Levi’s prearranged plan detailed in a note, assuming they both made it through the ordeal. Remarkably, The Gorge skillfully ties up all the action with an unexpected romantic ending reminiscent of Valentine’s Day.
