Funko Fusion’s Failed Launch Blamed for Shocking Developer Layoffs!

Summary

  • Layoffs at 10:10 Games reportedly followed Funko Fusion’s poor launch.
  • At least 19 jobs are believed to have been impacted.

10:10 Games, the developers behind Funko Fusion, reportedly carried out layoffs in January, impacting a total of 19 positions within the company. This move comes just five months after the relatively lackluster release of Funko Fusion in September 2024.

2025 is still young, but layoffs in the gaming industry are happening at an unsettling speed. In January, Ubisoft not only reduced its workforce and closed one of their studios, but also Rocksteady announced job reductions following the ongoing poor performance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. By February, developers behind games like Rumbleverse, creators of Smite 2, and the makers of Crysis have all announced layoffs. To make matters worse, a recent report suggests that 10:10 Games in the UK, which released its first game, Funko Fusion, last year, has also made similar staff reduction decisions.

Based on information from Insider Gaming, employees at 10:10 Games were notified about layoffs around mid-January. They were assured that they would be fully supported during this transition, but it appears that no practical job assistance or substantial severance package was provided to the laid-off staff. Instead, the termination process was completed quickly by the end of January. Sources close to the situation claimed that the minimal amount required by law was given as severance pay, rather than a proper severance package. It’s reported that this amount included payments related to the notice period and unused vacation days, despite 10:10 Games previously encouraging employees to take time off before this. Additionally, some insiders suggested that the company may have planned these layoffs well in advance and intentionally encouraged staff to use their leave to save costs later.

Funko Fusion’s Poor Launch Allegedly Caused the Layoffs

The report suggests that the recent layoffs at the studio may have been due to the poor performance of Funko Fusion, the game where players engage in battles and accomplish tasks as Funko Pop characters. It is stated that this was the first project of 10:10 Games, and it was a complete flop both commercially and critically. The sources also mention that the game’s underwhelming reception only allowed the studio to secure funding for a single project at a time. According to the report, these layoffs were necessitated by the demands of the upcoming project that hasn’t been fully designed yet. It is worth noting that this round of job cuts did not impact any members of upper management.

Despite whispers of potential layoffs, it appears that 10:10 Games is actively developing their new project, Funko Fusion. They’ve recently unveiled some post-launch updates for this venture. Back in February, this British developer teamed up with Universal to incorporate iconic horror characters like Dracula and the Invisible Man into their game, enriching its intellectual property.
