During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, The Last of Us series’ mastermind Neil Druckmann hinted that a character frequently discussed in the game will play a more significant role in the upcoming season. In comparison to how they developed Bill (portrayed by Nick Offerman) and Frank’s (Murray Bartlett) tale in Season 1, which unfolded as a heart-breaking love story spanning decades in Episode 3, this character could be in line for an enhanced presence. As of yet, Druckmann hasn’t revealed the specific character from The Last of Us Part 2, but given that the second season will delve into content that didn’t make it to the game, there are several characters who could (and arguably should) step into the limelight in The Last of Us Season 2.

In one of the deleted scenes from “The Last of Us Part 2”, it was planned for Cat to participate in the Jackson dance, providing an opportunity for players to chat with her before Ellie and Dina shared their kiss at the dance. Although this scene didn’t make it into the final game, the upcoming TV series could provide a platform to develop Ellie and Cat’s relationship further. As per their account, Esther resided in a community located a few hours from Joel, and they maintained a long-distance relationship. Players might have encountered her a couple of hours into the game, when Joel and Ellie were on a mission and found Esther’s settlement overrun by infected. In this heart-wrenching scenario, Joel would have spared her the suffering and put an end to her infection.
