- Avengers: Doomsday is anticipated to be emotional, with Holland’s Spider-Man facing off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
Given Tom Holland’s packed schedule with various films this year, Marvel Studios might follow in the footsteps of “The Mandalorian” production strategy to manage his availability effectively.
The movie titled “Avengers: Doomsday” is planned to start filming in March 2025, although there are whispers that the shooting might get delayed because of script issues. So far, Robert Downey Jr. is the only confirmed cast member for “Avengers: Doomsday,” but Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is speculated to have a significant part in this highly anticipated film. Interestingly, Holland will also be working on “Spider-Man 4” and Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” this year, both of which are set to begin production soon. Balancing three major, big-budget blockbusters won’t be a walk in the park, but it seems that “Avengers: Doomsday” has come up with a straightforward strategy to handle this challenge.
How Will Avengers: Doomsday Accodomate Tom Holland’s Busy Schedule?
Daniel Richtman, a trusted source, claims that some of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man scenes in Avengers: Doomsday might be filmed using a stunt double. This is because Holland is currently occupied with filming Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. As a result, the movie may have more masked Spider-Man appearances than usual. It’s worth noting that employing a stand-in for a busy actor, especially when the character wears a mask or other face covering, is a common practice in the Hollywood film industry.
Pedro Pascal was hardly present during the filming of The Mandalorian season 3, even though he portrays the main character Din Djarin. The production of The Mandalorian season 3 overlapped with the filming of HBO’s The Last of Us season 1, where Pascal plays Joel, a role that necessitates visible facial expressions. Luckily for the team behind The Mandalorian, they didn’t have to hold off on filming until Pascal finished his work on The Last of Us as Din Djarin is always seen with his helmet on in the third season of the show. Consequently, a stand-in actor could perform scenes wearing Mandalorian armor while Pascal primarily provided voice-overs for his character.
As a supporter, I can share my excitement about the upcoming Spider-Man films from Holland, where we might see him keeping his mask on more frequently. In the past, one of the criticisms leveled at superhero movies, particularly early ones, was their tendency to have the hero remove his mask too often. The Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire was often accused of falling into this trope. The likely reason for this is that studios invest huge sums to secure these actors for superhero roles, and their salary usually escalates if they’ve been associated with the role for a long time. Consequently, it’s only natural for them to want to maximize the screen time of the actor they’ve invested heavily in. However, many fans, including myself, would appreciate it if our superheroes were a bit more cautious when it comes to unmasking in movies.
In contrast, it’s predicted that “Avengers: Doomsday” will be a deeply emotional movie given Robert Downey Jr.’s role as Doctor Doom. With the Avengers having a lengthy past with Tony Stark, encountering someone resembling him could be quite impactful. Given Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, had one of the deepest bonds with Stark, fans eagerly await his response to essentially facing an evil version of his former mentor. If such a scene takes place in “Avengers: Doomsday”, it’s likely many fans will be disheartened if Tom Holland isn’t part of this reunion. Let’s hope that won’t happen.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 1, 2026.
