The exceptional ensemble of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” has captivated viewers, leaving fans eager to learn about each cast member’s future endeavors. Among them is Jamie Campbell Bower, the actor who brought the malevolent entity Vecna to life. During his visit at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida in February 2025, Bower shared his post-“Stranger Things” career plans.
As reported by People, during the event, Bower shared with his therapist that he’s hesitant about playing a villain again, at least not right away.
Bower said:
I said, ‘Indeed, I must tell you honestly, I’m not planning on taking on another villain role anytime soon.’
Bower continued:
It’s been truly amazing, and an unforgettable experience, to join the series from its fourth season, and be a part of something cherished by so many, including myself. However, I feel it’s time to retire my foam latex costume and bid a slippery, fond farewell.

It’s undeniable that Bower delivers a remarkable performance as Vecna, and it’s clear that playing such a malevolent character isn’t an easy task. Given the harm and death Vecna inflicts on people, it seems plausible to imagine the emotional toll this role might have on the actor. From the very start, Vecna is terrifying, preying on his victims’ pain, fear, and other dark emotions. This tactic affects characters like Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink), who mourns her brother Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery) by listening to Kate Bush’s song “Running Up That Hill.” Vecna is aware of Max’s guilt over Billy’s demise and uses this vulnerability to reveal his true wickedness by trapping her in the Upside Down, a desolate and ominous realm where he holds power.
Apart from portraying Vecna in the fourth season of Stranger Things, which ends mysteriously and sets the stage for its final season, Bower is also known for his role as Caius in the Twilight saga. Other notable roles include appearances in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and Christopher Marlowe in the 2017 TV series Will, which delves into the life of William Shakespeare.
Although Bower may temporarily step away from playing evil characters, it’s clear that fans are eagerly anticipating the developments of Vecna in Stranger Things season 5. Now that the Duffer Brothers have announced the final season will air in 2025, viewers can trust they’ll uncover the mysteries surrounding Vecna. Fortunately, we get to enjoy Bower’s talent as a villain one last time.
