Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming films generate a unique level of anticipation unlike any other. Since then, bits of news such as new actors joining the cast and filming timelines have been circulating, mostly through gossip, with not much official confirmation from Nolan or Universal until now.
First Look at Matt Damon as Odysseus
Today, Universal unveiled a picture featuring Matt Damon donning ancient Greek attire, portraying the main character Odysseus. This side view photograph is the initial glimpse of media from Nolan’s Odyssey that has been made accessible to the public. Over the last few months, there have been numerous discussions about who might land the lead role in this movie, with many assuming either Damon or Tom Holland were likely candidates for the part.
After Damon’s casting as Odysseus has been finalized, this will be his second significant part in a film directed by Nolan, following his appearance as Dr. Mann in Interstellar and Lieutenant General Leslie Groves in Oppenheimer. Notably, Nolan tends to collaborate with actors he has worked with before, making it interesting to witness Damon’s progression to portray such an iconic character like Odysseus under the guidance of one of the top directors in Hollywood.

Apart from the familiar faces who have collaborated with Christopher Nolan before, there’s an exciting lineup of actors on this project making their debut with him. This includes former Marvel stars such as Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Jon Bernthal, among others. To add to the intrigue, Charlize Theron and Benny Safdie have also joined the cast in roles yet to be disclosed. With each Nolan movie, the scale of his ensembles appears to grow larger, suggesting a truly grand assembly of talent for this upcoming project.
The production for The Odyssey started in late February, taking place in various locations such as Sicily, Morocco, and the United Kingdom. At this moment, Christopher Nolan’s 13th movie remains on schedule for its release date of July 17, 2026, without any apparent setbacks thus far.
