Summary
- Players want the opossum in Stardew Valley as a pet, but it’s not currently an option in the vanilla game.
- The 1.6 update allows multiple pets; players hope for opossum to be added to the list alongside cats, dogs, & turtles.
- While the developer has not made wild animals adoptable, a mod from 2019 allows players to have an opossum-like pet.
Players of the game Stardew Valley are showing great affection for its new opossum character, and they’re eager to have it as a pet. Since the recent introduction of this critter in Stardew Valley, many players seem to be fond of it, and they might require a mod or another update from ConcernedApe to make their wish come true.
In the latest version 1.6 of Stardew Valley, players now have the opportunity to acquire an unlimited number of pets. To do so, a player must first maximize their relationship with their current pet by earning maximum hearts. Subsequently, additional pets can be obtained through purchasing pet licenses. At present, players can select from cats, dogs, and turtles as their new farm companions, but there’s a strong desire among the community for at least one more animal to be included in this list.
On Reddit, user ‘meloriot’ posted a screenshot showing their farmer pursuing an opossum along a path, with the caption suggesting that they aim to obtain another pet license from Marnie for the opossum. Since then, numerous players have joined the conversation, expressing their delight over these unpredictable interactions with the opossum or their fondness for the animal in general. Many have expressed their desire to capture the opossum and incorporate it into their family, if given the chance. Sadly, this isn’t an option within the original game at present.
Will Stardew Valley Add Opossum Pets?
The creator of Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe, has continually expanded the game with various content, leading some players to speculate that an opossum could potentially become a pet if there’s enough demand from fans. However, it’s important to remember that this is still uncertain and ultimately depends on the developer’s decision. The inclusion of an opossum in your farm might not align with the developer’s plans, as the opossum is a wild animal, and historically, ConcernedApe has not made any efforts to make wild animals adoptable within the game. Despite encountering and befriending several wild animals in Stardew Valley, such as the trash bear, they remain unadoptable.
In the future, we’re unsure if players can legally obtain a pet license for this specific creature in Stardew Valley, but for PC users, modifying Stardew Valley is an alternative. Although the official opossum was introduced in Stardew Valley in 2024, a mod allowing players to adopt an opossum has been accessible since 2019. This modification essentially alters the appearance of a cat to resemble an opossum. It might not be what fans are hoping for, but it could help fulfill the desire to bond with the wild one.
