This unexpected survival of the Switch cartridges left many Nintendo enthusiasts amazed.
With Nintendo Switch sales surpassing 150 million units since its debut, it’s clear that this console has become a staple in numerous gaming households due to its impressive library of first-party games. Unique in design, the Switch combines elements of both handheld and home consoles by utilizing cartridges rather than discs. Contrary to expectations, these small cartridges are housed in packaging that’s surprisingly resilient, a fact recently confirmed by an enthusiastic Nintendo fan.
In a Reddit post, a user named DemureSow shared an alarming tale about a house fire they experienced, which sadly led to the loss of many of their belongings. However, everyone fortunately made it out of the burning house and the fire was successfully put out by firefighters. Amongst the devastation, they found an unexpected survivor – their Nintendo Switch games! Pictures showed that the cases had suffered severe burns, with some even melting together. Yet, using a hammer and screwdriver, they managed to open the damaged cases and found all the cartridges intact. It turned out that 18 games had miraculously survived the fire, including popular titles such as Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. To their surprise, they even found a copy of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a limited edition for the Switch that was only available for a specific period.
Nintendo Switch Cartridges Survive House Fire Thanks to Game Cases
In a recent post on the Nintendo Switch subreddit, user DemureSow disclosed that a fire occurred in their home, caused by a malfunctioning power strip. The blaze was confined to their bedroom, fortunately sparing their Nintendo Switch, which was situated elsewhere in the house. The post garnered numerous upvotes from fellow Reddit users and messages of sympathy for DemureSow’s lost belongings. Remarkably, several users also commented on the robustness of the Switch game cases, noting the striking contrast between the burnt packaging and untouched cartridges.
Although the house fire was unfortunate for DemureSow, there’s at least some good news: her unscathed Nintendo Switch games. Replacing a collection of Switch games could easily cost hundreds of dollars. In the comments on the post, the gamer affirmed that the games functioned properly, suggesting they withstood the harsh conditions.
Looking forward to checking out the actual packaging for the Nintendo Switch 2 video games! The official unveiling is scheduled for April 2 during a Switch 2 Direct event, where we may get additional insights into some of its upcoming games. Here’s hoping the new packaging will match the sturdiness of the original Switch’s packaging.
