Skull and Bones is organizing a special celebration event on February 18 to mark its anniversary. After years filled with excitement, this pirate-themed action-adventure game made its debut in early 2024. The project was officially unveiled in 2017, but development started as far back as 2013; it faced several setbacks throughout the process. With more than a decade invested in its creation, Skull and Bones has garnered significant anticipation prior to launch. Unfortunately, for many enthusiasts, the game didn’t meet the high standards Ubisoft had established.
Before its debut, Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, fueled more excitement by describing Skull and Bones as a Triple-A game, even going so far as to label it a Quadruple-A game. However, following its release, the game’s graphics and gameplay left many players questioning this bold assertion. Skull and Bones was one of several recent disappointing big-budget Ubisoft releases, including Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws. Although the game didn’t meet everyone’s expectations, it still had its fair share of supporters, particularly enthusiasts of ship simulators. Interestingly, an upcoming Ubisoft anniversary event hints that they may not have abandoned their ambitious pirate-themed title just yet.
According to a tweet by Skull and Bones, they are organizing a unique Year 1 anniversary event titled “The Founding.” This event starts on February 18, and players can participate by obtaining a specific mission from Blackwood. Participants have the chance to collect several prizes such as silver, cosmetics, weapons, an Illustrious Founding set, and many other rewards. Additionally, there will be a special currency called Silver Lions, which will only be produced for this celebration.
Skull and Bones Releases The Founding Year 1 Anniversary Event
- Start Date: February 18, 2025
- Start Location: Blackwood
At this special occasion, I can swap my Sovereigns for Silver Lions or gather them by finishing new challenges, which later can be spent on cool rewards at the festive shop. Ubisoft has also shared that their official Year 1 soundtrack will hit all popular streaming platforms starting March 6. The anniversary event follows a buzz around the possibility of Year 2 content for Skull and Bones.
It might come as a shock to many that Year 2 updates could be in the works for “Skull and Bones,” given its underwhelming debut and low player base. Despite numerous criticisms leveled at the game, such as its perceived lack of depth and content, Ubisoft’s continued support could indicate their determination not to abandon the project entirely.
Some might find the whisper of a possible remake for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag less enticing compared to Year 2 content for Skull and Bones. Originally, this project was intended as an expansion for Black Flag, but it transformed into a standalone game. Given that many fans have been eagerly awaiting the remake, they might choose to wait rather than purchasing more content for Skull and Bones. However, the anniversary event is currently live and offers exciting rewards.
