More recently, Ubisoft staged an impressive Six Invitational competition in Boston, Massachusetts. This globally significant esports event was presented on a grandiose level. Featuring live concerts and the unveiling of ‘Siege X’, the atmosphere was electric, the competitors were animated, culminating in an outcome that was as dramatic as a film.
During an interview at the Six Invitational in Boston, François-Xavier Deniele, Ubisoft’s Vice President of Global Esports, engaged in a conversation with Gaming World Media. He delved into the sustained triumph of Rainbow Six Siege and the key factors behind maintaining an esports game vibrant for such an extended period.
‘We Have a New Generation’
Rainbow Six Siege has consistently been one of the most popular esports games since its release, captivating millions of fans globally. The massive success of the Six Invitational 2025 underscores this popularity. In this prestigious $3 million event, FaZe Clan claimed their first victory, after a hard-fought second place finish at the previous year’s tournament in Sao Paulo.
Among the main topics discussed after the Six Invitational, it’s worth noting that two teams without any organization (referred to as ‘orgless’) not only qualified for the tournament but also advanced deep into it. Teams Unwanted and RazaH finished in fourth and sixth positions respectively. They managed to win a substantial portion of the prize money and demonstrated that having the support of a large organization is not necessarily required to achieve success in Rainbow Six.
In an interview with Gaming World Media during the Six Invitational, Deniele expressed a similar viewpoint.
It’s showing that it’s possible and it’s not just marketing or a PR message.
It’s true – you can become the world champion!
For me, it’s equally about conveying to the larger clubs that success isn’t solely dependent on player potential or resources; rather, it’s all about identifying and nurturing the most skilled individuals.
It’s a good message, and for me, it’s a good way also to say that the game is healthy.
The conversation shifted to the frequent entry of new players into the competitive landscape of certain video games. In some esports, the same professional gamers consistently remain at the top, year after year, with teams frequently competing to acquire established veterans for each new season. However, this isn’t always true in Rainbow Six, and Deniele admitted as much:
In terms of talent and players, we have new players…
As a fan, I firmly believe that nurturing fresh talent is crucial for the continuation of my team’s journey in esports. It’s disheartening to see a game stagnate without the infusion of new blood; when it seems like it’s just the same faces year after year.
No, the fact that we have new guys coming, it seems like we have a new generation.
