Disney World Drops Virtual Queues for Guardians and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Summary

  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Disney World are switching from virtual queues to standby lines on February 25.
  • This change allows guests more flexibility in planning their day without rushing to grab a boarding group.

From February 25th onwards, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will switch from a digital waiting system to conventional queues, similar to other attractions at Disney World. This change follows Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland ending its virtual queue on December 10, 2024.

From their debuts onwards, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Walt Disney World have been running exclusively with a virtual boarding system. This setup allows guests to reserve a group number either at 7 AM or 1 PM via the My Disney Experience app, or buy access to the Lightning Lane to ensure a ride. Without reserving a spot in this virtual queue, there’s a risk of not being able to experience these rides, making it essential for enthusiasts to wake up early.

Starting February 25th, guests can enjoy greater freedom in scheduling their park visits as they no longer have to race against the clock to secure boarding groups for popular attractions like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. This adjustment, long-awaited by visitors who favor a more traditional approach to enjoying these high-demand rides, will move towards standby queues. While this transition might lead to slightly longer wait times, it guarantees that everyone has an equal chance to ride these beloved attractions, regardless of luck or precise timing.

Disney World Eliminates Virtual Queue For Two Major Attractions

Starting from now on, Disney World will abandon the use of virtual queues for all its attractions, making it the first time since many years that only regular lines (standby) or paid Lightning Lane access will be available. For those eager to skip long waits, the Lightning Lane option will remain an option. Specifically, the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom will offer separate Lightning Lane Single Pass and Multi Pass purchases respectively, enabling guests to reserve multiple attractions in advance. Interestingly, this transition has been seen before with TRON Lightcycle / Run, which opened in April 2023 and maintained a virtual queue for over a year before introducing a regular line in September 2024.

After February 25th, there won’t be any active virtual queues. However, Disney has hinted that they might bring back virtual queues occasionally for specific popular attractions or new experiences in the future. They explained this to Mickey Blog saying, “Virtual queues have been useful during the introduction of popular attractions and new offerings, so we may reintroduce them selectively for certain experiences from time to time.

Disney has announced that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, a highly anticipated attraction at Disney World, will soon be part of the Early Entry lineup in EPCOT. This perk is offered to guests staying at Disney-owned hotels and certain partner resorts, who can enter the park 30 minutes before it opens to the public, enjoying shorter wait times on selected rides before general admission begins.
