Users of the PlayStation Portal can now enjoy streaming eight fresh games onto their handheld devices, thanks to an expansion of titles on PS Plus Premium that was recently rolled out. When the PlayStation Portal debuted in November 2023, one common complaint from gamers was its inability to natively play games and instead stream titles directly from a PlayStation 5. Although the Portal will never be able to play games natively, a substantial update now enables it to stream content directly from the cloud with PS Plus Premium.

In November 2024, Sony introduced an update to the PlayStation Portal software that enabled cloud streaming on the device. This expansion allowed users to access the portal without needing a PlayStation 5, opening up the market significantly. However, there was a condition: users wishing to stream games directly from the cloud using the latest PlayStation handheld device needed to subscribe to PS Plus Premium, the highest-tier subscription plan. Regrettably, even with this subscription, not every game could be streamed as only certain titles were available for streaming. Fortunately, a fresh batch of games has recently been released, offering new options for Portal users to explore.

Starting February 18th, Sony introduced nine fresh games to both PS Plus Extra and Premium. Interestingly, eight out of these nine games can be played via streaming with PS Plus Premium membership, which includes popular picks like “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor”, “Top Spin 2K25”, and “Mordhau”. Additionally, there are a few classic titles included as well, such as “Patapon 3” and “Dropship: United Peace Force”. To sweeten the deal even further, there are also newer games like “Tin Hearts”, “Somerville”, and “Lost Record: Bloom & Rage Tape 1” that you can enjoy right now. However, these titles won’t be available on the service indefinitely, but they can be streamed instantly using your PS Plus Premium membership through the Portal for now.

Some games mentioned earlier, like “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor“, can be played on PlayStation 4 and 5 through PS Plus Extra. However, cloud streaming on the Portal needs a subscription to its Premium tier. Luckily, PS Plus is currently discounted until February 24th. For those wanting to subscribe to the Premium tier for direct streaming on the Portal, Sony has an attractive 37% discount in the U.S., reducing the yearly price from $159.99 to only $99.99.
