This time around, the latest video game intellectual property being adapted for the big screen is the popular indie beat-’em-up game, Sifu, created by Sloclap.

Today, Netflix unveiled its partnership, boasting a number of prominent figures involved, yet no specific actors have been cast for any parts as of now.

Sifu Punches Its Way To Netflix

At this point, it remains unclear if the movie will directly follow the storyline of the game or incorporate its distinctive aging feature in some way. However, what has been confirmed is that Chad Stahelski, known for his work on the John Wick series, will serve as a producer for the film.

According to the recent announcement, T.S. Nowlin, who wrote The Maze Runner trilogy, will be responsible for writing the screenplay adaptation.

2022 saw the arrival of Sifu on gaming consoles and PCs, a beat-’em-up masterfully created by the talented minds behind Absolver, Sloclap. As I journey through this game, I find myself in China, taking on the role of a determined young individual seeking vengeance for my slain martial arts mentor, who goes by the title “Sifu” in Mandarin. In this thrilling adventure, each defeat in battle triggers a mystical talisman that resurrects me, but at the expense of fast-forwarding my character’s aging process.

In its initial month on sale, the action game managed to sell a staggering one million copies. To date, cumulative sales across all platforms have reached an impressive four million units.
