Along this treacherous path, she encounters various animal allies who aid her in overcoming the Titan of Time and rescuing her loved ones. These animals join her in combat, assist with farming for superior resources, and offer Melinoe indirect advantages, such as ongoing power-ups.
In my gaming experience, Melinoe only allows for one companion to tag along with her during each journey through both the surface and the underworld. It’s essential to carefully pick the ideal partner, considering which ones align best with my current gameplay style or offer assistance in gathering valuable resources.
Unlocking Familiars In Hades 2
A Few Steps To Finish First
In order for Melinoë to access her ability to summon familiars, she needs to perform a specific spell at the cauldron located in the crossroads. This incantation is referred to as “Faith of Familiar Spirits”. To acquire this incantation, players should focus on collecting necessary equipment and using them at least twice. After all the equipment has been gathered, Melinoe must confront Hecate. If the steps are followed correctly, Hecate will engage in a dialogue with Melinoë before the battle, discussing the topic of familiars.
Once you’re back at the Crossroads, engage with the pot to uncover the incantation. This incantation requires two units of Nectar and one unit of Lotus Flower. To locate the Nectar, seek out rooms bearing the Nectar symbol or buy it for 50 bones from the Wretched Broker. You can find the Lotus Flowers in numerous rooms scattered across Oceanus. Upon performing the Faith of Familiar Spirits, Melinoe will obtain a Witch’s Delight. Share this treat with an animal, and it will accompany Melinoe in future journeys as a familiar pet.
In the game Hades 2, players can pick from five animal companions – Frinos, Toula, Raki, Hecuba, and Gale. Each companion corresponds to a distinct material that Melinoe can collect during her journeys in the Underworld or the Surface. By selecting the optimal familiar for pursuing a specific material, not only will the chances of that material showing up increase, but it also means you’ll skip the minigame required to gather that material. For instance, Toula simplifies fishing and makes it more likely to catch fish. When Melinoe fishes with Toula by her side, Toula automatically catches the fish instead of making the player go through the minigame.

Near Melinoe’s camp, you might come across Frinos. Not just does he increase Melinoe’s highest HP level, but he’s also effective in shielding against incoming projectiles. This trait proves especially beneficial when dealing with Hecate, as Frinos has the ability to neutralize her polymorphing curse by consuming it.

Following the use of the Woodsy Lifespring Charm, Melinoe will meet Toula within the chamber of Erebus containing the fountain. Upon conversing with her, Toula will vanish from Erebus and resurface later on the Earthly Plane.
Initially, sprint across the open terrain, vanquish Polyphemus in Ephyra, then proceed towards the waterfront district. Just before exiting, watch out for Toula on the pier’s farthest left side. Offer her a Witch’s Delight and she’ll become Melinoe’s companion as a familiar.

In the heart of the Crossroads, you’ll stumble upon a hidden gem – the fountain room. Follow the flow of water, and as you approach the exit, keep an eye to your left. There, nestled by the path, is a striking white raven named Raki. But beware! The first time Melinoe speaks with him, he’ll vanish like mist in the morning sun.
Following that sprint, continue venturing into additional Underworld runs until you encounter Melinoe in a specific room, identified as the fountain chamber, within Erebus. Raki will vanish for one last time upon meeting Melinoe. During the subsequent Underworld run, locate the fountain room again in Erebus. This time around, Raki will offer an opportunity to form a bond with Melinoe. Offer the charming white raven a Witch’s Delight, and it will join Melinoe as a companion.

To locate Hecuba, venture into the Underworld and seek out Echo in the Plains of Sorrow. Follow the path leading to the exit; occasionally, you might find Hecuba lingering near the gates. Be mindful not to overlook the charming dog – its black coat camouflages it against the flooring.
Speak with Hecuba, making her vanish each time. Keep doing this until a exclamation mark appears above Hecate’s head at the Crossroads. This will elevate other familiars as well. Then, approach the Titaness and she’ll enable the recruitment of her familiars, Hecuba and Gale, using the “Shared Familiar Bonds” feature.
In a more conversational tone:
1. Chat with Hecuba until she disappears each conversation. Do this repeatedly until an exclamation point appears above Hecate’s head at the Crossroads. This will help other familiars level up too. Afterward, speak to the Titaness, and she’ll grant us the ability to recruit her familiars, Hecuba and Gale, via the “Shared Familiar Bonds” option.
Delve into another journey to the Underworld, locate Hecuba once more in the Plains of Sorrows, and on this occasion, Melinoe will be able to offer Hecuba a reward. Treat the loyal hound with a Witch’s Delight, and she’ll accompany Melinoe as a familiar spirit.

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “To bring Gale into my team, I’ve got to ensure I’ve mastered two ancient incantations – ‘Faith of Familial Spirits’ and ‘Shared Familiar Bonds’. If you’re back for the latest update (Warsong), these should already be checked off your list since they’re essential for recruiting all previous animal familiars.
As a fan, I’d say: “To locate Gale the Poelcat in Hades 2, start by embarking on a surface run. Gale is hidden in the penultimate chamber before encountering Prometheus. To get there, you must first finish the City of Ephyra and the Rift of Thessaly, then traverse the lower levels of Mount Olympus. Upon reaching the end of Mount Olympus, look for Gale in the same room as the shop, on the right side of the path just before entering Prometheus’ chamber.
On our initial meeting with Gale, we couldn’t manage to enlist his services. We had a conversation with him, but he seemed to vanish afterwards. Yet, during our subsequent encounter, we successfully recruited Gale by offering him a reward.
Gale’s primary skill lies in deflecting attacks followed swiftly by a counter-attack using scratches. However, it seems that during each encounter, Gale can block a certain number of attacks, but it’s unclear which ones exactly will be deflected. As we delve deeper into the mechanics, we’ll share our findings right here.
We brought Gale back on board using a save file that they had previously advanced through everything up to the Warsong Update. At present, we are verifying if starting from scratch with a fresh save file produces any differences. Although it’s unlikely, if we notice any discrepancies, we will share them as soon as we can.

1. To improve your companion, locate it at the Crossroads.
2. If you’re traveling with Melinoe, find your companion’s designated spot in the training area and ask it to take a break.
3. Once it has rested, offer it a Witch’s Delight to level up one of its abilities to the next stage.
To make more Witch’s Delight, you should follow the Beast-Loved Morsel Alchemy recipe at your Cauldron. However, this recipe can only be utilized after Melinoe has performed the Faith of Familiar Spirits spell. The ingredient that may prove tricky to find is Star Dust. To acquire it, cast the Abyssal Night Incantation, which you can obtain from Chaos at the Crossroads near the Pitch-Block Stone. If you’re having trouble finding it, you can also get Star Dust by completing Chaos Trials or by purchasing it from the Broker for 600 Bones.
